Hello, I would like to know which DVD authoring software has incorporated Dolby digital (AC3) encoder. I know Vegas+DVD and TMPEnc (with AC3 plug-in) are the two. Others ? What are the barriers for whose who don't have ?

TMPGEnc DVD Author with the AC-3 plug-in is one of your cheapest solutions and you could do much worse when it comes to functionality. It is somewhat true ... to an extent ... that you can't make the best menu designs with TMGEnc DVD Author but who cares about that?

It works really well, is super easy to use, supports AC-3 if you import AC-3 and will convert audio (like PCM WAV) to AC-3 with the AC-3 plug-in. On top of that it is very stable and not bug ridden etc.

Another inexpensive DVD authoring program that will do AC-3 encoding is Sonic MyDVD Deluxe and yet another is Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3 (make sure it is the DISC CREATOR EDITION as the STANDARD EDITION is missing features such as the built-in AC-3 encoder).

If you need an MPEG encoder and you are on a really tight budget then you might be happy to know that Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3 has a built-in encoder. It's kinda basic in many instances but it can get the job done although it won't work right with most DivX/Xvid source but for captures it will work good enough but you are better off using a seperate MPEG encoder with any of these programs (such as TMPGEnc Plus or Cinema Craft Encoder aka CCE BASIC).

From that list I would say go with TMPGEnc DVD Author but I used Ulead MovieFactory 2 back in the day and it was OK so you might consider it as a real option.

I honestly never tried Sonic MyDVD Deluxe but I've heard mostly negative stuff about it.

Thanks for the info. I downloaded a trial version of Ulead DVD Workshop 2 but don't see AC3 option, just because it's a trial version ?

Trial is MP2 (maybe WAV). No AC3 on trial.
Ulead DVD Workshop 2 is my preferred authoring software of the moment.

Mine, too. Hey, lordsmurf, a while back you said you were working on a guide for it. When will it be out? I'm looking forward to seeing it. I'm sure it'll be great.
