  1. One of my house mates has just had a holiday in HongKong and bought a few DVD back with him, as they are Region 1 encoded and my PC`s DVD player is locked to Region 2, I thought the best way to view them was to Rip them to disk and play the VOBs with powerDVD. (Have done this before with other disks)

The problem is that a couple of disks will not rip one of the VOB`s (The rest of the vobs are read off the disk fine) I worked on one of disks and found out it was VOB 5 out of 8, I have tried three diff ripping tools, SmartRipper, DVDDecoder and DVDDecripor all the same vob not being read.

Since then I have tried the disk(s) on a multiregion player and they played all the way though fine.

Has one else had this problem and if so, a possiable fix?

  2. first...clean the bottom of the DVD discs...make sure there's least possible amount of crap on it.

then, goto windows explorer and see the filesize of vob 5. most vobs are 0.99 gig...but if it's 1.00 gigs..then you may have to enable an option in smartripper to rip those (i'm not sure cuz i use a very old version of smartripper) or the lastest version of dvddecrptor can handle 1.00 gig vob files without any extra options (i'm pretty sure about that)

other than that...maybe the fact that your PC DVD-ROM is region 2 while the DVD is region 1 could affect it..try to get a hack to make your DVD-ROM region free
