  1. How do I convert and compress this 4GB MPG file to Quicktime format?

  2. On a PC?

First thing that comes to mind is VFAPI Converter / and the TMPGEnc MPEG-2 decoder plugin (you don't even need TMPGEnc).

I'm not sure if QuickTime will accept VFAPI frameserve as input.

Must be a dozen different ways to do it.

    ----edit-----

QuickTime doesn't seem to support VFAPI frameserve, you'll have to convert to an intermediate format (*.AVI), and then convert to *.MOV with QuickTime Pro.

Quicktime Pro can read mpg files directly and then save them in a mov container.
