I'm trying to update my firmware so that I'm able to use some new DVD-r disc I've just purchased. I make it throught to step 4 which informs you that you must restart your computer before firmware update. So I click OK and my PC restarts. Now when I would double click on the update it doesn't start but continues to inform me that I must restart my PC. 20 trys, same thing. I have a Sony 500A-DRU with 2.0g firmware. I'm trying to update to 2.0h or 2.1a. can someone help

i had the same problem. I uninstalled all the programs that used the DVD burner (i.e. CloneDVD, Nero, DVD Shrink, etc.)and then did the firmware upgrade. Then had to reinstall those programs again

I got rid of my old sony 500ax because of the same problem ,in a word sony makes lousy burners. Get rid of it and get a pioneer or a lite on and you will have better results.
