  1. Hi,
My name is Gabriel. I've been having problems capturing DV. I have a Toshiba Satellite A20, and I've recently bought an Adaptec Firewire card for notebooks.
My camcoder is a JVC -GlXXX...I don't know exaclty. I start Win XP Prefessional, I open Windows Movie Maker (or any other software), and I start recording. Everything works great for one minute, then my computer crashes. I don't know what to do, because I've capture in my father's notebook and I hadn't got any problems so far.
    Please help me!!!

Make sure the Adaptec Firewire card has the TI chipset. That's one possibility.

  3. Hi,
I don't know what is that. DAMN - answers are very quick!!
I don't think the problem is whith the firewire PCMCIA Card, I mean, I've used it in my fahter's notebook and everything went just well.
I have two theories; either there is some kind of incompatibility between adaptec firewire cards, and toshibas, or betwenn Jvc Mini Dv camcoders and Toshiba, or there is a missing driver, (which I really expect this to be!)

Thanks again for your quick reply.

I have a JVC GRD33 camcorder and I know JVC has compatibility issues with firewire cards that do not have the Texas Instrument Chipset. You can see the TI logo on the chip on the card. I don't have a notebook so I can't comment on that.

  5. Hi,
This is the firewire card I've got: http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/product/proddetail.html?sess=no&language=English+US&p...-1394+Adapters
I don't find any Ti Chipset logo, maybe it doesn't have any. However, how could it be explained that the same firewire card, with the same JVC camcoder, worked in my father's IBM laptop-centrino, 1.1 ghz?
Mine is a Toshiba Satelitte A20, 480 ram, 2.66 GHz.
Another theory: I've seen that one minute something of captured DV is like 1 Gbytes, I have partitioned my Hard Disk into two fat32 partitions. Is it possible that it is because FAT32 can't stand files bigger than 1GB?...not too sure though.
    Any help would be appreciated!!

FAT32 can not have files bigger than 4gbs therefore you should be ok format those 2 partitions into NTFS if you want which in my opinion would be better for capturing. perhaps you don't have enough memory in your laptop.

  7. Dear friends,

I´m having a little difficult problem...when I connect my JVC GR-D30US miniDV to my PC with a VIA Firewire Card...the applications just give me the message "THERE ARE NO DV CAMCORDERS ON THIS SYSTEM".
I´m looking for a owner of this camcorder to talk about it ... it took 2 months that I bought it and I still can´t burn my DVDs.

We all that have JVC Camcorders should make an effort to solve the big problems....

    Thanx.
