Media was purchase from CompUSA with a media code of INFOME..R20 The package said it was 4X media, but the media code says that it is 8X. I have upgraged my Sony drive to the Ricoh 5125A v1.72 firmware which is supposed to handle 8X media. The problem is that Nero starts the burn, writing the lead in, but then stops with a invalid media error. I'm using Nero 5.5 Could this be part of the problem?

    Thanks

  2. I'm not familiar with that media but the best thing to do is to try a different burning program and different media. You should be able to isloate the problem doing this. If I were to guess I would say that it would be the media.

I have always used the ritek 2.4x media and this same version of Nero for a long time and have never burned a coaster, never. The deal was too good to pass up - 100pk cakebox for $20. guess I'll go a return them.

Unfortunately it was too good to be true.
Best thing to do is to just return them like you said.

I doubt the version or the fact it's Nero is the problem. The error is generated in the drive and Nero merely acts on it.

  6. yeh,it sounds like your firmware upgrade went tits up.
you might try to flash it to safe mode,(i know the pioneer drives can be flashed like this, thus saving a "dead"drive)

also,it may be that the "x8" compatibility may not support those discs, with that media code.

The drive functions fine - I burned 3 of my Ritek 2.4X discs without incident - the problem is definitely a media/8x compatability issue.
