I live in mexico, so pirated VCDs/DVDs are all over the place. I used to see vcds split into two CDs when I first moved here, almost 2 years ago, and now, they're all fit into one CD. How do these people fit almost 900MBs onto one 700MB CD? I happen to know they don't use larger capacity CDs. Any good guides to do this?

are you sure they are not Xvcd or Kvcd. these are hacked versions of vcd where you can make a 1 cd vcd if you wish. i use this method accasionally even though i have a dvd burner for when i am doing something for a friend who does not want to keep it or something.

I don't think so, they look (when you browse them) just like any VCD you burn with nero.

so do xvcd and kvcd i am afraid. the video is just encoded a little different. if they are 1 1/2 - 2 hour movies and they are one ONE cd i almost guarantee you they are some format like kvcd or xvcd

actually no BUT almost ALL newer dvd players (last 3 years or so) should play them fine and a lot of older players will play them also. they play on all my 3 dvd players and i ven have an old one stored away that i bought when dvd players first came out and it plays them fine.

so should be a 90% - 95% chance they will play i would say. everyone i have given them to can play them.

dont confuse file size with time ..you can base your vcd svcd or xsvcd in 2 ways.

    1. The movie is based on time which means if movie is 80 minutes or less and even if its 800 megs or so it well still fit on disk as vcd or svcd or xsvcd.

    2. Option 2 movie based on size this gets more tricky even if a movie is 120 minutes but is 700 megs it well also fit on the disk. But you realy need to know why your doing here as you could end up loosing lots of quality. But if you know what your doing and have lots of time then this can have very good results.

over all for the reguler user i would go with option base your cds on time not space it means your movies well be on 2 - 3 or even 4 cds but you should get good results. If you want to fit one movie on a cd i would probably go Divx or nero digital as you can fit even a 3 hour movie on a single cd with some excellent results. Nero digital does get better results in picutre quality at this point. But its downfall its there is no standalone units available right now. But from what ive read mabe comming sometime this xmas.

Now divx with the latest released version its heads above even the one just out a few months ago the results ive had are just short of amazing the same move i had to fit on 2 cds to get even close results to nerodigital that could do better in 1 cd. Now can do almost as good as nero a single 700 meg cd. Very impressive improvment.

If your gonna go divx way i would sugest the Philips DVP-642 plays almost eveything inclusing divx in Canada it runs around 90.00 in us i believe around 60.00 one of the most versitle and best players out there and its dirt cheap to boot.

Well this is my 2 cents hope it helps and clear things up for ya and i have fit 136 minute movie in xsvcd format onto a single 700 meg cd with very good results and 180 minute movie in divx format 700 meg. Amazing quality done with latest divx. If you have further question leave all do my best to answer.

When I used DVD2SVCD, I burned quite a few SVCDs at around 830MB on a 80 minute CD.

You burn from an image file in Mode 2. The extra space is from not adding the error correcting files that aren't needed anyway with a SVCD. (This is not the same as overburning)

  11. Haven't any of you lot ever heard of overburn?

  12. Overburn isn't a factor when writing larger than standard CD capacity VCD files. Read redwudz's post.
