  1. Can somebody give me a hand on this. I made a dvd of a 3 hour program by setting my dvd to record for 3 hours on a 2 hour dvd. Using Mpeg-VCR, I edited out all the commercials and saved the remaining video, a little over two hours, as mpeg-2 video file. I didn't re-encode the video in Mpeg-VCR. I now want to put it back onto a dvd with simple menus and chapters.

My authoring software, Roxio DVD Builder will re-encode the 3.15 gig mpeg 2 file into dvd format (mpeg-2 is dvd format, I think), which turns out to be over 7 gigs. It appears to be upsampling the video, which I don't need it to do.

Could someone please tell me where I went wrong and what I should do or what software I need to use? I'm stumped.

Thanks, and sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

You need a good authoring program, try TMPGEnc DVD Author. For simple cutting and splicing you can skip the mpeg-vcr step as well. TDA will accept the video from your recorder directly, then you can edit and author all in one go.
