  1. I purchased a ILO DVDRO4 at Walmart for $150.00 which is said to be
    made by LiteOn.

I have had disc compatibility issues as follows: I recorded to a
cheap offbrand DVD+R from a recorded movie on my DVR from Dish
network on SP recording mode and the quality was bad, poor color
saturation, washed out image and poor resolution of image. However the
finalized disc was playable on my Emerson Combo DVD VCR. I recorded
the same movie on the High Quality setting on the DVDRO4 and the
image quality was excellent. At this speed you can only record for
one hour then you have to use another disc for the last half of your
recorded program. But the disc is not playable on my Emerson DVD
combo. I tried this three times with the same result, gave up and
recorded the last half of the movie and the disc containing the last
half was playable on my Emerson DVD Combo. At the suggestion of an ILO tech I bought a 30 pack of Memorex DVD+R. These discs have the same
problem, not playable at HQ speed on the Emerson.

Another problem is that I cannot get a stereo signal out of the DVD
RO4. At the suggestion of a ILO tech I changed the RF input from the
DVR to the DVDRO4 to a set of composite RCA cables. This did not
help. In fact now I cannot get a signal from the DVR to my tv with
this setup. The setup is as follows, RF cable from the Dish to the
DVR, composite cables from the DVR to the DVDRO4 composite cables to the TV. Now the one disc playable on my Emerson does not give a
stereo signal to the TV even though the DVDRO4 is marked as having a
Dolby digital output. I have not hooked my coaxial sound cable yet
but I assumed that since a stereo signal is transmitted to the DVDRO4
from the DVR that it would be recorded as stereo not mono.

My previous set up was: RF cable to the DVR from the dish, RF to the
DVDRO4 and composite cables to the TV. Then I had the annoyance of
switching the cables back and forth all the time each time I wanted
    to record on the DVDRO4.

I just recorded the first half of a movie at HQ speed from my DVR using Memorex DVD+R media and it was not playable on my Emerson DVD combo. I then recorded the last half using Memorex DVD+R and it is playable on the DVD+r

    Hi Blaine3;

If you are getting a bad picture in SP mode there is something wrong with your DVDR04. That could also explain the other problems you are having. I would suggest exchanging it.

HQ only records for one hour on a DVD+R. SP is 2 hours and look great for all those programs I've recorded at that speed. I agree with Harpmaker. If it looks bad it could be a bad deck.

You are finalizing the disc before you try to play it on other players?

  4. I agree with Harp... if your SP quality is junk, then you have a bad unit.

What are you doing testing your unit with +R discs? Get yourself a 5 pack of +RW discs and test until you are blue in the face.

If your Emerson DVD player doesn't like +RW discs you are out of luck. I picked up that tiny Cyberhome DVD player for $30 at RadioShack (after $10 rebate which I actually received) for my daughter and it plays everything I throw at it.

Exchange your unit and let us know if that solves your issues.

Off topic... When using +RW discs, I do not have to finalize them in order to play them on my Sony DVD, Cyberhome DVD, or my computer (NEC 2500). Are you guys finalizing or skipping it?

As I understand it, +RW's don't need finalization, so I don't do it. It's the main reason I prefer the +R/RW machines. I'm lazy to the bone.

  6. I notice that that for video record on the DVDRO4 playback quality is better on the Emerson DVD player, that is the color saturation is much better. I was advised I might be better off with a Pioneer 220-s. It's priced at $250.00 at Walmart.

  7. The way the 04 put out its data onto the disk is strange but ok. Some playing units are having problems playing these disk. PowerDVD slider scanning bar working playing a R04 disk. One from the 220 I have no problems.

One question. Must be too much candy left over from tonight. Are you trying to record a stereo RF signal? It does not have a steeo decoder.

I have connected one of the outputs from my old Sony TIVO into one of the inputs and set the R04 to record from it with no problems.
