How to insert chapters

Hi all. I have just captured video to AVI and converted that to MPEG2 format, to allow for simple conversion to DVD format. I plan on simply renaming my mpeg file from name.mpeg to name_01_1.vob. Using Ifo Edit, I can then create the necessary Ifo file etc to allow me to burn this as a DVD.

This is where I need the help though......how do I set this up so that I have chapter markers? I did the above yesterday and it worked fine. But there were NO chapters so there was no way of fast forwarding/rewinding to any point on the DVD. The DVD is 1 hour 45 minutes long so I simply have to have chapters in place.

Does anyone have an idea on what software I need to insert chapters either in my MPEG file or my DVD files (VOB)

Why? IfoEdit will quite happily accept a .mpg file and author a DVD.

In order to add chapters with IfoEdit, the info needs to be in a text file specially formatted for the purpose. I am no expert on this so can't provide the details.

A better method is to use a proper DVD Authoring program such as DVD-Lab or TmpGenc DVD Author. Both have free trials available. TmpGnec is slightly easier to use for the beginner but DVD-Lab is much more powerful. Of course there are plenty of other tools for doing this job too, check the tools section for more options.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I am trying to steer away from having to use yet another piece of software. My computer is overloaded with video/audio software - this is why I was hoping either IFO Edit or VOB Edit would do the trick. I already have authoring software like Sony Vegas 5 + DVD Architect, plus AVI choppers, demuxers, audio conversion utilities etc, etc....it's all getting quite messy.

I'll play around with IFO Edit to see if or how this can create chapters within VOB files. Thanks again.
