ok what i have are mpeg1s on dvd. Im going to deplux them and then re-encode back to mpeg1 and put on dvd again.

I know for vcd bitrate is like 1100. What bitrate can mpeg1 that is going to be on a dvd media go up to?

Im wondering if i bump it up a little, will it make it more better playable? because at times this current dvd does pause for few seconds. Will quality improve as well??

The max bitrate for MPEG-1 on DVD is 1856 kilobits (see What is DVD (top left) for more info).

Upping the bitrate is not going to help you with the last two.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  4. Hi Solarflair,

I regularly encoded AVI files to MPEG1 files that comply with the VCD standard (i.e. about 1115kbs) using TMPGEnc, and then create a DVD based on these files (I can fit over 6 hours on a single DVD) using TMPG DVD Author. The resulting DVD invariably plays without any problem.

    Hope that helps.
