I just upgraded the firmware to 1.05. I just bought 8X dvd-r Memorex blanks. It took 29 minutes to burn my backup barbershop movie? Is this normal? I thought it should take at least half that time. Thanks for any help.

PS. Nothing in the background running. I disabled Norton.

As 888888 wrote, please do check your DMA. I have come a cross once in awhile, I would get a blank DVD that would take longer then normal to burn. It has happen to me maybe 2 or 3 times, from maybe 400 or 500 disk.

Also, what software were you using to burn with?

FYI: The firmware update sets the drive to PIO to do the update,
and never sets it back. It happened to me 2 weeks ago.

    sorry i didn't see the whole ?.
go to control panel>>system>>hardware>>device manager>>ide/ade controler. Right click on primary and/or sec. channel. In the box transfer mode, change the one that says PIO to DMA if available. This is XP and i think 98. You don't need to go into the BIOS.
