  1. Finally got some Ritek G05 8x media. Try burning them in my 108, but only burns at 4X. HELP!!! arrrRRGHHHH...

I got my 108 set as master and my DVD-rom set as slave.
My os is XP. The setting for the IDE is correct.
    Firmware is now at 1.14.

I want to be able to put back 1.10, but it wouldn't let me. Can someone show me how?

    Thanks...

Your burner proberbly dont like the media. IMO I think ritek media is crap. Try some verbatim discs. I use 4x -R's, they burn at 8x on my nec writer.

Well ANV 8X Go5 disks burn at 12X on my 108......
IMO, Riteks and problems seem's to be 2 words that dont sit well together to a lot of us.... Unlike other brands.

Which brand of Riteks are you trying to use ?

  10. I had some HQ 4xMedia (from Meritline). I burned them in my Microadvantage 4x burner with lastest FW. Just couldn't play them in my JVC 5 disc player or other brand names such as Sony.

I burn the same media in my pioneer 108 (fw 1.14) and it plays fine in all my player.

In the beginning, I thought it's the media. But now I think it is more like the firmware from manufacturer that allows you to burn to be compatible with players. Can someone confirm me on this?

    Thanks...

  11. There are currently at least 3 different media codes for Prodisc 4X and 4 different codes for 8X. Some burn at faster speeds and some don't, hence the confusion. The quality of the burn is almost always worse at faster speeds. You decide if the speed is worth the difference.
Still a few bugs in the system...

  12. ive been using my new pioneer 108 with datawrite grey x8speed -R discs and they burn fine.
ive never been a fan of overburning(x4@x8,etc).
tried one verbatim DL disc, and that played fine in my standalone, layer change was in the same place as the original.

  13. Hi,

I recently got a 108, upgraded the FW to 1.14, and at the present time DVDDecrypter tells me that the discs I'm using (TyG02) are burning at 1.2x. Any ideas how to up the burn speed the the 4x the discs are capable of?

DVDIdentifier tells me the media supports 1x, 2x and 4x.

I am using my 108(fw1.14) to burn my ritek at 8x. Something it will burn only 4x. I notice if I restart my computer, it will do 8x again. Maybe u wanna try that.

  15. Hi TQ2,

Hmm, I have restarted my computer a few times (DVDDecrypter will sometimes burn two or three copies and then stall part way through a burn). I'm just curious as to why 4x media and a 16x burner should stick at 1.2x. I wonder if there is somewhere else on the compuetr I can tweak to up the burn speed.

I would try to remove (software and hardware) the 108 then reinstall it again. Then restart your computer again, after installing it.

  17. What version of dycripter are you using ? a old one.... I sometimes use Disk Juggler to burn disk and it will report burning 4x at 4x but throw it a 8x disk and like you it will say 1.2x to 1.4 times.... Still does it in under 8 mins though so it is burning at right speed just cant report it correct....
Aslo have had issues with 4x media stalling and locking up burner only a 3 finger salute or reset will cure... Not a hick-up on 8x though.

  18. Hi,

I may give the reinstall a go.

  19. Hi,

Just a thought before I reinstall. I have the drive set to "cable" rather than Master or Slave. Will this affect the write speed?

    Bill

  20. Could do....
Far better off making it master and anything else on cable slave.

  22. Hi,

Reinstalled drive, set the 108 to Master, and got nothing. Set to slave and got a burning speed 0f 1.3x!!!!

I have my CD and DVD burners on the same cable. I remember reading that it would be better if they were on different cables. ANy feedback on that idea?

  23. I have mine on the same ide lead (dvd-r master cd-r slave) dont seem to make any diffrence. Were both drives set to cable select before ??
Maybe try unplugging the cd writer and test but i cant see it making a diffrence.
How long does it take to burn a 8x disk ?
That would be the real test not just what speed the software says.

  24. Hi iooi,

Yes, both set to cable select. Now DVD set to slave.

    I'm burning a 3.28Gb disc with Burn4Free with a 8x disc and its taken 10mins to do 20%.

There is a computer fair on Sunday where I bought the burner, do you think I should return it?

    Bill
    Quote Quote
  25. Hi,

Well its taken 1 hour and 16 mins to write 3.2Gb at 13x (according to Burn4Free). It stalled on 73% and then again at 76%.

I'm trying a 4x and so far its taken 30mins to write 55% - so a better rate at the moment.

Should I return the drive? Or get it tested independently?

Try unplugging the cd writer and put the 108 as master. Check that its being picked up in bios as not pio... DMA 4 is what mine is set at.
Then try to burn a disk. Try nero or other burning program. Something that is upto date.

  27. Hi iooi,

My drives are reading pio only. i've downloaded some isntructions on how to force the OS to read enable dma. I'll get back to you later today.

  28. Hi,

How do I check which IDE channel the drives are on? I know that both CD and DVD are on the same one, the DVD reads "location 1 (1)" and the CD reads "location 0 (0)".

Also, I have found that if I try to enable DMA on the secondary channel all I get is PIO, whereas the Primary channel will change to Ultra DMA 2. Since making those changes (PIO to DMA) the DVd won't write at all!

  30. Hi Budz,

Cheers, I found that today, and I'm going to give the "delete drivechecksum" route a go first, then maybe, the delete the ide channel.
