I am torn between 3 systems. All are laptops

One has a 533MHZ Front SIde bus running a 1.7ghz Pentium M processor.

One has a 533mhz front side bus running a 3.30ghz Pentium 4 HT processor

One has a 800mhz front side bus running a 3.40ghz pentium 4 ht processor.

I am designing this laptop for high powered DVIX Conversions, DVD Ripping, downloading, traveling and graphics work.

    Any ideas

BTW, Price is not really an issue.

Price not withstanding is there any reason NOT to go for the best system?

Yeah the 800fsb with the 3.4ghz would clearly be the better system.

  4. If price is not an issue, why not go with the fastest system? For me, those choices would be a no brainer. I'd go and get a nice AMD system! :P

Seriously, that P4 800FSB will rock.

Well I do use my laptop on the go, will the P4 give me enough battery life to make it useable?

  6. None of those CPU's will operate at that speed if you leave the "config" set to portable/laptop. It "underclocks" itself to conserve power. Why run at 3.4Ghz to type an email when 2.0 will do just fine?

  7. you should buy one of thoose motormaster Power boxes that are on sale for $149 that's what I'd do, you'd get a work out to lugging around.

so ur saying i can "dumb down" the 3.4ghz cpu when i dont need 3.4ghz? I didn't really know how to do that

i was supposed to be able to dumb my 866 down to 666 but it never worked.

That's because it's the mark of the beast. :P

Almost all new laptops will underclock when on battery. Most will let you set the level of power you want with some control panel applet. If battery life is a major concern go with either a P4M or a Centrino.

I didn't think they were putting the P4HT's CPU's in laptops because they were a battery drainer and the ran smoking hot and the fans in a laptop were not sufficient.

It won't be as fast as the P4 with HT. It's a tradeoff. You're going to sacrifice some performance for battery life.

Don't expect to encode anything on battery life either.

Like ViRaL1 said its a trade off, the P4 is faster but the M uses less power.

You could always buy a powerbook?
