  1. I've seen some posts similar to, but not quite like the problem I'm having here. I recently upgraded my OS from Win98SE to WinXP on my Gateway450 (yes it's a dinosaur, but one that still serves me well) . Now I've a problem playing back my DVD+Rs that I didn't have with Win98SE. I have WinDVD ver4.0, and playback is fine up until the final 10 minutes or so depending on which DVD I am playing, then WinDVD kicks me back to my title index screen. Realplayer and Windows Media Player also freeze up at the same point during playback. Regular DVDs play fine all the way through. I've tried TDK, HP, and Memorex discs, but get the same result. These same DVDRs play fine on my standalone, and my family's standalone players-they play all the way through with no freezing. I've even swapped my Toshiba DVD drive into my other Gateway that still has 98SE on it to see if this was a hardware driver issue, but my burned DVDs play fine on the other PC. I reinstalled WinDVD with no luck, then uninstalled it and tried Sonic Solutions Mpeg combo pack, but got the same result-my DVDs still froze at the same point. I'd hate to have to unistall XP and go back to Win98 just over this problem, but it gets frustrating, especially when I want to do frame captures and can't get to the end of the movie. Just an update-I unistalled WinDVD 4.0 and upgraded to 6.0, but yup, dvdrs still stop at same point. My suspicions point to an issue in XP, but if anybody could clue me you'd have this newbie's appreciation.

  2. Okay, since I couldn't resolve the Windows XP issue, I just partitioned my hard drive and installed Windows98 on the new volume, just for WinDVD Now all my DVDs (burned or bought) play through just fine. It's a redundancy, but what the heck, at least it worked.
