i just used dvdshrink for the first time. The idea of the program is great i was amazed that it can compress a 7gb into a 4.7 disc.

when i first played it, i saw the menus and xtras and was totally amazed. almost undistinguishable with the orignal. but i found a few setbacks.

during the movie, it tends to pause for moments, and i also get a some artifacts. What is the cause? could it be that it was compressed to much? As far as media, this is good media, not great but very good(platinum series). I kept the whole thing intact except for subtitles, i just kept english subs and tossed the rest)

Did i do anything wrong here? How can i avoid the problems i mentioned.

What burning software are you using? Fill in your computer specs. There are many variables in backing up dvd movies.

as for the burning its kinda weird. when im in shrink, and i click 'backup' which starts the writing, no other burning software starts up. From what i see, it burns in shrink.

Only authoring sw i have is nero / tda author. but neither are open when the writing occurs. so its hard to tell. i suspect its part of Shrink.

If you're using version 3.2 of DVD SHRINK it has the capability to burn automatically with NERO if NERO is installed on your computer. I would suggest you uncheck the feature >BURN with NERO in dvd shrink. Then after your files are compressed then open up NERO separately to burn your dvd. Some people have had problems with using DVD SHRINK with the NERO automatically burning the dvd.

Edit>Preferences>File I/O Uncheck the "Burn with Nero box.

3.2 had a bug so that on some machines it wouldn't even recognize the disc with that box checked. I found the fix on the DVDShrink forum one day after it failed to recognize the disc. I unchecked it and haven't looked back. No problems now burning with Nero separately

Another common workaround is to output to an ISO file and then manually load this into DVDDecrypter to burn in ISO Write Mode.

In terms of shrinking, I would offload all unnecessary audio streams also.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Definitely. If you don't need the Swahili subtitles and audio track, leave 'em off

    Hello,

Also you could do a "deep analysis" to increase quality. It will take more time but many here say it's worth it.

well in prefs can you do that right? i just select english only for audio and english only for subs , doesnt it auto dump the rest?

Also how do i know if i should choose stereo or 5.1. if i choose stereo, will it not work in a surround sound setup?

I had the same problem that you had with pauses during playback. I found that it happend on disks which had been ripped and shrunk using DVD Shrink. I switched to using DVD Decrvpter to rip the disk and then DVD Shrink to shrink it down. I then use Nero to burn the disk. Since I've switched to this method I've had no problems with stutters and pauses. You may want to give this way a try. I've read that others have tried this way and it has fixed their problem.
As for your artifacts, use Deep Analysis to improve picture quality. Also, download the new version of DVD Shrink if you don't have it and use the AEC (Adaptive Error Compensation) option for even more picture quality improvments.
As for which audio track to choose (5.1 or stereo) I would say that you should choose which ever one suits your sound setup. If you have a 5.1 setup, then go for the 5.1 track. If your just using TV speakers or a stereo setup, go for stereo. I personaly go for the 5.1 option everytime. You get the full effect on a 5.1 setup and it still sounds fine on a stereo setup. However, that is my choice. In the end it's all up to you.
