Im still no wiser as to why after burning avi to dvd using the above tools the sound is ok but the picture is just a black screen with red fuzz at the bottom.
I was told to make sure the codecs where pointing to the right files but im not very wise when it comes to codecs so im not sure what to do.
Ive got the film machine pointing to CCE correctly so it should work shouldnt it?

can you play the avi file ?
some of the settings in The Film Machine for CCE are a little odd i found -- but its a handy program ..
i never could get it to make the IFO files and don't reduce CCE to your system tray or film machine will not work .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
sometimes it plays and sometimes it doesnt.
do you know the best tools to use for novice converters like myself where you just drag ure avi files in and click go -

Hi all. Although I managed to create a dvd from a divx downloaded movie (last night), I tried to do another movie again this morning (using The Film Machine with QuEnc as I do not have the other encoding softwares) but the process failed with the following error:
FAILED ON AVS LOAD
ERROR CODE 2147221164
DOES THE FILE ….TFM_Avisynth_Script_File.avs EXIST?
I ran the divx movie through DivFix to look for any errors on the original but there were no errors reported.
I then uninstalled The Film Machine and QuEnc softwares, reinstalled them and tried to turn the dvix movie into a dvd. This time I got the following error:
AVS FILE IS NOT OUTPUTTING
(USE CONVERT TO YV12() AT END OF SCRIPT)
Does anyone know what is going wrong
Any help much appreciated.
Thank you. -

Thank you for the reply jyn999. It shows that you understand the error codes but I am a newbie with TFM and do not know how to go about rectifying the problem by creating the AVS file in TFM and also how to add CONVERT TO YV12() at the end of the AVS file. The software worked smoothly first time yet failed me the second time I tried it. The first time I did not have to create any AVS file nor add CONVERT TO YV12() at the end of any file names. I hope to get some help here from someone who uses TFM and can help me rectify the problems. Thank you for the insight into the errors though jyn999.

try reinstalling it

I did the following as you said:
After selecting the source AVI file, I checked the Edit AviSynth script file box.
I clicked on Next.
Here I made my DVD size choice and gave a title to the movie.
I clicked on Next.
I left the subtitle window as it is and clicked on Next.
I then got the window The Film Machine (Version 1.3) with no Next button highlighted but Make DVD button highlighted.
I clicked on Make DVD.
The following message came up:
- 16/10/2004 13:48:14
- AVI to DVD conversion
- The FilmMachine version 1.3
--------------------------------------------------------
Initializing.
Initializing finished.
Then nothing happened! No encoding phase started and there was nowhere to make changes to the AVS script file like you advised me.
I apologise for giving you yet more trouble with my trouble! Thank you for any help you may be able to assist me with. -
@meera shah,
My replies were based on my experience using DVD2SVCD. Other than installing The Film Machine and running through the screen, I have zero experience with it so I won't be able to help you resolve your current problems.
Why don't you download DVD2SVCD and give it a shot?
Good luck. -
jyn999...thank you for your reply. You advised using DVD2SVD. Would that be suitable to turn a DivX movie into DVD?
Your advice much appreciated.
Thank you. -

EDIT
DVD2SVCD version 1.2.2 build 2 and later can use QUEnc.
Sorry about any confusion. -
jyn999...hi again
.
With regards to DVD2SVD 1.2.2, can I download this for free? I already have QUEnc on my system. With those in place, then I can perhaps turn the DiVx movie into a DVD?
Thank you for your assistance. -

Yes. Look to the left, click Tools and search for DVD2SVCD.

I've used DVD2SVCD to create DVDs from AVIs but I used CCE not QUEnc. Look in the Doom9 forums for advice on DVD2SVCD.
