  1. Hi

I'm having this problem here when converting to VCD from a TRULY wide screen DivX/Xvid/DVD. All of you already know that the TMPGEnc templates for VCD convert to 4:3 and even when preserving the wide screen aspect ratio ends up creating an mpeg with 4:3 signal and two black lines inserted above and below the actual video.

I tried changing the template but could not figure a way to end up with a TRUE wide screen that will be a full screen on wide screen TVs and a regular "almost square" with the black lines to preserve the aspect on 4:3 TVs, as most original movie DVDs are.

Anyway, what I'm trying to create here is an anamorphic wide screen VCD. Anyone knows if that's possible and how to do it?

    Thanks!!

Not with mpg1,only mpg2 and 720x480/576 to be dvd compliant. If you did find a way to make it wide screen anamorphic then chances are it wouldnt play with the right aspect ratio as vcd anyways.

  3. Ok, so these settings you gave are for SVCD, right? Would that be an anamorphic?

On first read, I thought VCD could only be 4:3.

    http://www.vcdimager.org/pub/vcdimager/manuals/0.7/vcdimager.html#SEC24

The Video CD specification requires the multiplex-ed MPEG-1 stream to have a bit rate of about 174300 bytes per second. The video stream is required to have one of the following resolutions:

    352 x 240 @ 29.97 Hz (NTSC).
    352 x 240 @ 23.976 Hz (FILM).
    352 x 288 @ 25 Hz (PAL) (not supported on VCD 1.x!).
The audio stream must be MPEG-1 layer II, fixed to a 224 kbits/sec CBR with 1 joint stereo, stereo or dual channel audio stream, and a sampling rate of 44.1 kHz at 16 bit resolution.
No limitations regarding aspect ratio according to this
    If in doubt, Google it.

Aspect ratio isnt the problem, its the anamorphic thats questionable.

  6. Exactly, on my regular TV I got the right aspect (with the black lines) but on the wide screen TV I just got a "center square" video... I wanted to have a "full wide" screen...
