    Hello--
I am tired of constantly having to run Ad-Aware and Spy-Bot in order to remove spyware. Are there any programs that will block Spyware before it is installed on your system? Thanks

Spybot will immunize your system so you are protected.

The latest spybot also has builtin system and internet exploder protection.

Spyware blaster is similar to Spybot. I run them both, plus Adaware.

Another good program would be WinPatrol. It scans your system every 5 minutes and notifies you of any changes to your registry, Internet Explorer settings, startup processes, and alot more. It's free, available at http://www.download.com/

I agree, but don't you find some sites won't work? Last night I was doing a income tax return on the internet and they would only use I.E.
I'm not cluey enough to know why, but I'm willing to listen.

Best spyware blocker is the person behind the keyboard. BTW I use IE and haven't had a spyware infestation in recent memory, the last was one installed by someone else on my comp.

    Tweedledee,

IE doesn't conform to some web standards. Since nearly everyone uses IE fiancial institutions and other sites conform to IE, when it should be the other way around.

Your correct, there are some websites that refuse to accept anything other then IE. We have only ourselves to blame, after so long of just letting IE dominate many companies setting into the fact that you have it without bothering to ask themselves if you should be forced to use it.

When I hit those sites I use IE. Other then that IE is never opened on my PC.

  9. You could buy spyware programs but all you need you can find for free. There is a version of Spybot called Spybot Resident (I'm not sure where to get it, I could email it to you if you pm me) that sits in your tray and scans for registry changes and alerts you. I would just have a good firewall, like zonealarm, along with Windows Startup Inspector (www.spychecker.com) and obviously Adaware and Spybot. If you do regular scans and take a few precautions you can usually eliminate spyware problems. Also as mentioned before, switching to Firefox will help too because its more secure than IE.

    I think that's incorporated in Spybot S&D (v1.3).

Choosing "Advanced Mode" and then clicking "Tools" should reveal a "Resident" icon.

Thanks for the suggestions, I am going to try out WinPatrol. It would be nice if software developers would create a freeware program that would block spyware from installing on computers! Also a question, a few of you have stated the best SW blocker is the computer user. What exactly do you mean? How is the computer user supposed to know if they are visiting a site which will install spyware?

They have, it's called SpyBot, or Spyware blaster. Some people call cookies spyware, but cookies have their uses.

Unfortunatley they are abused by website more than they are used as they were intended to be. I have IE set to block all cookies except "session cookies" which are used for such features as shopping carts. If a website won't work correctly because cookies need to be enabled I either enble them just for that site or move on, I've left more than one. Staples being the biggest, you need cookies enabled on their site just browse the catalog.

Cookies never show up in my spyware scans.
