    Hi guys,

For obvious reasons DVD Studio Pro isn't letting me import PAL assets into a NTSC project. SO...

I was wondering the easiest way to convert PAL M2V files to NTSC M2V?

If possible I'd rather not re-encode them per-se because I don't want generational footage.

Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,

    Lyle.

Echelon *was* the easiest method, but that one is gone now. I believe MPEG2Works has a color format conversion function. Hopefully the audio will still be in synch afterwards, as you're changing the video's framerate...

might be too round about of a way, but if you got them as .vob's you could then use DVDConverter [which comes with the latests mpeg2works]

Huh? What happened? I did do a search for the announcement post but now can't find that either did it vanish in the server move? (searching for 'echelon' doesn't produce a whole lotta results).

Edit: Nevermind, just read up on it. What can I say ... not one of the ideas of the century.

Got that right. Oh well, the DVDConverter tool that comes with MPEG2Works looks good. I wish he'd sell that one separately for $5-15 or something...

[Edit] Never mind about selling DVDConverter separately. I didn't see that MPEG2Works was only $10. For some reason, I thought it was more than that. By all means, if you need to do PAL<->NTSC conversions, buy yourself a copy of MPEG2Works. [/Edit]

Interesting. It should be noted that JES is only for QT movies, and not for DVD VOBs. In fact, I think QT Pro can handle color format conversion, simply by exporting to the other standard.

JES Deinterlacer's PAL<->NTSC conversion is very good quality, much better and smoother than converting with QuickTime.

  10. DVD Converter:

    1) Does it actually recode the whole videostream?

    2) Does it retain subtitles?

Has anyone tried DVDConverter? does the audio still stay in sync? and how's the quality?

    OT question:

I noticed on DVDConverter there's two options, one is for AC3 audio and one for MP2 audio.

Is mp2 audio common? I've never heard of it until now.

    curious.

  12. Since I made DVD Converter helper GUI for my Customers /MPEG2 Works Customers/ I will not comment quality of the app...

Regarding .mp2 audio...Yes, its common....AC3 is a 5:1 Dolby Surround audio track and .mp2 is a stereo audio track...There is DVDs with both tracks included...

i've never tried dvd converter, it sounds cool though, but last night i tried just using ffmpegx, my input file was a muxed mpeg2 file with ac3 audio and i choose the dvd preset, then change the frame rate and size, the results were decent, not great but not bad, and the audio is in sync, you might try that and see if the quality is acceptable for you.
