I installed my pioneer 108 as master and set the cdrw/dvd rom combo as slave.. but why hasnt it changed letters? Shouldnt my dvd burner be E and the combo be F? Instead the dvd burner is F and the combo is E. What do I do? Or what if I leave my cdrw/dvd rom combo on cable select and set my dvd burner as slave? The dvd burner is on location 0 and the combo is on location 1. Or it shouldnt matter that the pioneer is set to slave? I heard that the drive doesnt like being slave, rather master? And does it matter with the drive having Ultra DMA Mode 2? Shouldnt it be 4? I burned a 4x in 13 min. 50 secs. 80 wire 40 pin, will I have purchase it then to burn at 16x ?

the letter changing shouldn't matter. you burned a 4x disc at 13 min. 50 sec. which i think is ok if you're using 4x dvd media. if you want 16x speed burns you would need to use 8x dvd media that will be compatible on your 108 drive. verbatim has 16x dvd+r media at bestbuy. check out the pioneer forum at cdfreaks.com.

I don't have a pioneer 108 drive. Ask your question in the Pioneer forum at cdfreaks.com. Using a 80 wire ide cable is better for dvd burners. As I stated if you want 16x burns you'll need to use 8x dvd media or 16x dvd media. The pioneer drive doesn't achieve true 16x speed throughout burning process. Check out the Pioneer forum for more information. There is a hack firmware for the drive at the forum.rpc1.org.

  5. To change drive letters, right click [MY COMPUTER] click {MANAGE} to open the computer management console. In the top or lower right pane, right click the disk you want to change.Fixed drives appear in the top and bottom pane.Removable drives appear in the bottom pane unless they have media inserted in which case they appear in both upper and lower pane.Select [CHANGE DRIVE LETTER AND PATH] click [CHANGE] select the new letter from the drop down list box and click [OK]
