My in-laws moved to England recently for 3 years. (Military assignment). We've tried to video conference using MSN and AOL instant messenger but the results weren't good. On MSN we couldn't connect at all. Using AOL we were able to talk but couldn't use video. There is a 6 hour time difference so one of us is always in the peak useage period. I can only assume the networks on one end or the other are just too busy.
I ran a search, looking for a lesser known (and hopefully less busy) program and found this webpage this past week: http://www.free-software-downloads.org/conferencing-software/video.htm
Does anyone have any experience with any of these programs?
We both downloaded "Eyeball Chat" and were able to video conference this morning but the quality left something to be desired. (It was better than nothing, however).
What video conferencing software do you use? Does it work good when trying to conference overseas? I know there has to be a good (hopefully free) program out there. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I've used NetMeeting to videoconference with people in Panama. They had dialup, so the video resolution wasn't great, but we had full-duplex audio.

I've tried most of the free videoconferencing apps and find eyeball chat to be about the best. What kind of internet connection do you and your inlaws have? I have cable and so do my parents and eyeball chat works pretty well.

We both have broadband connections so that isn't a problem. Eyeball Chat seemed to work OK but we did get some feedback in the audio. Couldn't turn the volume up as loud as we would have liked but it was manageable. If Eyeball Chat is the best we can find we will continue to use it but I was just wondering if there was some other "unknown" program that might be better.

To fix the feedback issue you both need to get a headset or something so the audio from your speakers doesn't feed right back in to your microphone. If you have some earphones lying around that will work too.
