if you mean that you want to convert the divx to a dvd that works on most standalone dvd players.

And your signature image is way too big, the max file size is 10 kb. https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=124514

  5. Tony82.......I am in the same shoes as you my friend.
What I found that works is to scan the file for errors then run winavi to convert to dvd format then I use nero smart start to burn the files that winavi created. It works GREAT no playback problems...nothing

is a great guide on winavi.

Guys I am still also looking for some help on how to take the files that winavi created and turn them into a multiple movie dvd

Ok there are several problems at work here. I'm tempted to write a guide, except that I don't have my procedure 100% nailed down yet.

Problem #1: Many DIVX/XVID files that you download are broken.
I don't know if the people encoding these things are stupid, or if it's just that there are so many crappy XVID codecs floating around, or what. But 99/100 XVIDs that I download either use unsupported XVID features, or have broken audio, or both. And when I say broken audio what I mean is that their MP3 encoding is FUBAR. You can tell a file like this because when you open it up with VirtualDub you get a nasty error telling you just how much off-sync the audio will get by the end of the file (usually a couple seconds!). The "fix" for this is to extract the audio to a .wav file, and then re-encode it with a GOOD MP3 codec. It's not hard to find a good one... but apparently none of the people encoding these files have one.

The cure for the bad encoding of video isn't as easy. There are guides for fixing it, but it's time-consuming.

Problem 2: Encoding the files is difficult...
I was using DVD Santa for a while, but it has a few nasty quirks... like using 100% of cpu resources and I have to put it on "low" priority with task manager just to be able to do ANYTHING else... or that it has multiple windows that all are pinned on top of all the other windows on the machine... or that it takes twice as long as any other encoder to do the same work...

Every program has its drawbacks. Mainconcept is fast and good, but won't let you fiddle too much with the encoding - heaven forbid you'd like to make several things fit on one DVD and thus need to mess with the bitrate! TMPGEnc is slow and picky. Procoder isn't as slow, but it's pricey and various versions seem to be missing certain features.

Lots of freeware apps exist to do what we want, but they are of varying quality. It's hard to find one that is fast, produces decent results, AND lets you have enough control over the process.

    Problem 3: To be continued...
I've run out of steam, this post to be continued at a later date.

Intervideo's copy programs have an option to convert to DIVX -I don't use it as I don't do a lot of DVD backsups but this means the program can burn to DIVX. I have been using this program to burn DVDs after I author them from camcorder footage and it does a good job.
Its conversion (transcoding) is a little slow although very easy and decent results but as a burning program its good (altough it costs around $50 I think)
