    Hi,

i USED 2 record movies on my Sony Digital Camcorder & then used 2 play it & was just recording it on a normal blank tape, however, over the recent weeks, i seems 2 b getting interested in playing around with my video i.e. by having some transitions along with adding different effects, which i managed 2 do & then finally burned my FIRST movie onto a CD.......

The problem is that im NOT getting the same quality video after recording on the CD that i used 2 get after recording on the video tape......... It seems 2 b rather poor video quality than the SHARP video quality i used 2 get in past (PERHAPS, its 2 do with frame rates, however, i did set the frame rate to 30 but can't notice ne big difference) ....... on my Camcorder screen, i get 2 see crystal quality video & was getting the same quality when recoding it on normal blank video tape, however, SADLY that's NOT the case with viewing the same video after recording it on CD.........

My video quality wasn’t sharp as soon as I seen the preview after capturing the video clip straight from my camcorder………… (PERHAPS, it seems that im missing some SETTING that i should b doing b4 capturning the video)....

i wonder, wht r the chances of me getting the quality that i would love getting............ ur help would b GREATLY APPRECIATED..........

NOTE: This is my VERY FIRST message in here, after sigining up couple of days back, so do accept my apologies 4 nething that sounds not quite sensible.........

    Thanx,
    Darsh

You need to spend some times reading those guides to the left. If you go to 'All Guides' and put in 'DV to DVD' (Or are you really burning your video to SVCD/VCD?) and do some reading, you will find all the answers.

Also it really helps to fill out your computer specs in the profile. At this point nobody knows what software you are using, or what settings you are using, and without that info, there is little advice we could give.

VCD or video on CD will not be comparable to video from a camcorder. To get comparable video you need to create DVD's or SVCD's (video on CD but at a higher bit rate that normal VCD). As Red suggested check out the guides to the left, particularly under the "what Is" section.

Thanks for the profile. It looks like your system is fine for DV processing. I assume you are planning to burn to DVD.

I use WinDV to transfer DV to my harddrive, mainly because it has a preview. The transfer program has no real effect on the DV file.

Once you have it in your computer, you can use several programs to encode the DV to MPEG-2 for DVD. I also use VirtualDub to edit, then I frameserve that to TMPGEnc encoder.

The encoder setting usually determines the DVD quality. That is what the Guides are for. There are a lot of adjustments you can make that determine the output quality.

I don't know a lot about PAL, but I think you should be using 25FPS. The important thing on encoding is bitrate. Again to the guides.

Well, that's a start. Try to remember it's a hobby. The more you know, the easier it becomes. There is no really simple way to get from DV to DVD. It takes a little time, but it will be worth it. Good luck and welcome to the forum.
