  1. I would like to split my DVD9 DVDs into 2 discs - 1 for the main movie and 1 for the extras. The problem is, I also want to keep the main menu on both discs, but to delete the buttons on the menu that aren't on the specific disc.

In other words, I'd like to do this with my Star Wars Trilogy:

DVD 1 = Menu Intro, Main Menu, Main Movie, Chapter Selections

DVD 2 = Menu Intro, Main Menu, All Extras, Anything else

So far I've been unable to find a good way to do this for my understanding. I've looked into DVDReMake, and it looks like it will do what I want to do, but because I have to purchase it I'd like to hear some other comments beforehand. Hopefully someone else here has had experience doing the same thing.

The reason I want to keep the Menu Intro (when the Star Wars: A New Hope title comes up) is because it also is that way on Episode 1 and Episode 2. I kind of like it . Thanks for any help, I'd really appreciate it.

You can do it in DVD Shrink.

Before beginning, create a black bitmap of the appropriate reoslution for your format.

For Movie only, load up the DVD in Shrink. Go to each of the extras and change the compression to still image, then click browse and select your black bitmap. Do this for each of the extras (you could also create a single image that says 'Extras on Disk 2'). Now Shrink and Burn and you have a disk with the menus and movie, but no extras.

Now do the same again, but this time replace the movie with the still image. You will probably find that there is no shrinking required for the Extras, however it will have to compress the still image.

The advantage that DVD Remake has over this is that it takes up less space when it replaces the extras, and you can use it to disable buttons that are no longer required. However this method works, and is completely free.

  3. Awesome! Thanks guns1inger. I'll give it a whirl when I get home from work.

  4. Just to clarify: would the resolution need to be the same as the default image that comes with DVDshrink? Is that a good template to go by, if I am NOT cropping or editing the aspect ratio?

I think the default image that comes with Shrink is NTSC. If that is your format, go ahead. I'm from PAL land, and just use the PAL DV template in Photoshop. Having said that, I think Shrink will force it to resize to fit. If it's all black, it won't matter, however it may take longer to encode.

  6. Man, forgot about the PAL/NTSC. I'm NTSC.

I found an image off of the dvdshrink site that says "Please Insert Disc 2" so I'm going to try it with that. The file isn't very big, but if it works, I'd like to make my own. I forgot about PS having the templates, that should work out great.

Thanks again for all your help.

  7. Hi all.

soloredd, you will find a selection of title-replacements at http://www.dvdshrink.info/title_replacements.php

DVD Shrink will reformat the image to whatever the format of the original title was (NTSC, PAL, 4:3, anamorphic, etc etc).

  8. Well, I finally had some time to try this out. It worked great, I used one of the images off of the shrink website to replace the extras with. The only thing is I'm an idiot! There are hardly any extras on the DVD as it is, save for some sound tests. Hahahaha. Oh well, at least I know how it can be done now, as I have a few other movies that have a ton of extras on it.

Thanks again for all your help. The movie turned out great. Now all I have to do is figure out VobBlanker and PGCedit to get rid of the warnings. But, that will be awhile!
