What causes the "noise" in a ripped movie? Is there a way to find such "disturbances in the force" without watching the whole ripped movie again?

No. I just used DVD Decrypter to rip it to the HDD and then played the resulting ISO using my virtual DVD/CD drive. The "noise" is always in the same spot and lasts for about 1 second and so far happens about four times thru out the movie.

    Thanks

  4. Does this noise is green or multicolored squres ??

If yes, it seems like a damaged mpeg file (read from a scratched disk).

The "noise" is multi-coloured squares. Here's a screenshot:

You'll notice the head of the maid on the right of the gentleman is messed up along with the head of the girl on the right of the shot.

Is there any way to detect such glitches albeit watching the whole ripped movie?

You're hitting a fragmentation on the file. Or the system resources cannot keep up (RAM, CPU).

Thanks, but can it really be a systems resource problem? I'm running a WinXP SP2, 160 GB RAID1, P4-3.2GHz, 1GB RAM system.

Is there a utility which can check if this has happened anywhere else in the movie without viewing the whole movie again?

    TIA

When you say the errors occur on the same spot it's just the disk which is damaged or cannot be read correctly.
File fragmentation or system resources are no issue here. Better try it in another DVD reader if possible.

Also check the I/O settings in the dvddecrypter settings and make sure the ignore read errors option is off.

  11. Which DVD player are you using.
With PowerDVD 5 I had always this artefact. Switching back to version 4 resolves all the problems.

Maybe it's the same for you.

Look at this thread (the PDVD 5 bug is well visible): https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=165610
