Hey everyone. I ripped many dvds without any problems. But I tried this new movie dvd and dvdshrink gives me a error message - failed to read file d:\ and data error (cyclic redundancy check). When I try DVDdecrypter, it gives me a I/O error. I tried another new movie and same thing. But I put in a older dvd and it works. Anyone have this problem?

Yes im getting that problem as well.Tried to back up 3 films straight out of the cellophane, constantly gets so far into backup, then i get the I/O ERROR,Now i have to go the long way round (dvd decrypter then dvd shrink)
-
what causes this since Soixante has the same problem and his discs are brand new out of the box? Is there anyway to get around this?

If you have only one drive try cleaning the lens. If you use 2 drives, use the target drive and burn the image to your hdd first.

if the dvds play ok through Power Dvd(which i know they do),does that mean i need to clean the lense still?I actually posted about this problem a month or two ago. That time i put it down to a dodgy dvd,but this time makes me think there is something going on with all new pressed dvds?

not to sound smart but i dont think the lens is dirty. my dvd burner (NEC 2510a) is new (about a month old). I tried the same disc on my friends burner today and the same problem happened.

What are these disks names a secret? Try downloading AnyDVD, it has a 21 day trial and try checking off "Copy protection based on unreadable sectors" its at the bottom. It's a new copy protection of sorts.

Is there a new encryption or something? If God had intended us not to masturbate he would've made our arms shorter.

I've constantly found DVDShrink to be lacking when it comes to ripping - it errors all the time, to the point where I no longer use it.
I use either DVDDecrypter or Smart Ripper - if one doesn't do the job the other does.
I've seen similar threads where others have suggested ripping in ISO mode and then using a reliable and compliant burning tool to burn the image.
Hope that helps...There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

i tried dvddecrpter and it gives me the I/O error. I tried your advice on using SmartRipper but it says that my burner is RC2 or something and wont work. Can anyone show me how to use the smartripper? Thank for your help.

try using older version of DVD SHRINK like 3.05beta, here's the download for it.

The protection isn't new, just being used more now (I hope this forum wakes up soon)
DVD Region+CSS Free updated, removes new DVD copy-protection

Yes, that's Sony's "Structure Protection" not a dirty disc or something wrong with lense (******* idiots). If people on this forum paid more attention to copy protections they wouldn't be giving you shit advice!
Why are you calling people in here "******* idiots"?
Geezzz another freeking newbie to this forum site.

Hi all.
Do these problematic discs have an "Unreferenced Material" folder, as listed in DVD Shrink "DVD Structure"?
If yes, try applying "No Compression" or "Still Image" to this folder.
Another option is to do a movie-only backup using DVD Shrink "Re-author" mode. -
Hey tvideo! Thank you for valuable advice, and screw you for being rude to others!
-
Has anyone actually seen a Region 1 movie with any of these new protections yet? I'm just curious. It seems to be a Region 2 thing mostly.
-
does anyone know how dvd Region+CSS Free work? I'm running it in the background and DVDShrink and DVDdecrypter gives me the same error message. Can someone show me how it works or how to use it?

In reply, yes some of the disks do have "unrefferenced material".Whenever i see this folder i do a movie only backup, but even then i still encounter the error? These are the films i have had the problem with.
1-How to lose a guy in 10 days
2-House of sand and fog
3-Hidalgo -
Sorry, Soixante, I do not know what the problem is with these three titles.

Accoding to the change log of AnyDVD the latest version is supposed to allow you to copy DVDs that have the ARccOSS copy protection implemented.

I mean hell, it's been illegal to sell video games there that show blood for... how long? 10 years ANYWAY? There are already stronger anti-copying laws on the books in Europe than the DMCA. Elaborate Bytes was forced to close shop in Germany and reopen in Switzerland because CloneCD is illegal under German law!
If that protection were introduced here, DVD's would be returned by the truckload. Much the same as what happened when CD copy protection happened here - any store that sells copy protected discs will take them back, no questions asked in the USA (some might give you shit, but if you press the point they WILL take them back). We don't deal well with crap like this.
Also we are the land of the lawsuit. Philips already sued a bunch of people over music CD copy protection, since the discs produced weren't meeting the CD standard they aren't allowed to be called CD's. They threatened to do the same with DVD's.
Anyway, please don't let this rub you the wrong way - but you live in an area where people will pay for crap like this and not complain. -
I've backed up Hidalgo and How to lose a guy in 10 days. Both with DVDShrink with no errors. Not sure whats going on for you. I have had disks that others could'nt backup with there burners so they brought them to me and it worked on mine. Maybe your writer or rom have something to do with it. Not saying you have garbage hardware. Just throwing out ideas.

Have you tried ripping these titles in DVD Decrypter with the I/O settings set to 0 Read retries and ignore read errors set?
