Well, maybe more than a couple.
Ok, I've tried some things in my old Pioneer, but I need to know some others.
It will play Pal vcds that I make. Will it play commercial pal vcds?
It will not play pal dvds, even if they are region free. Or has someone gotten this to work? And will it play ntsc dvd if the disc is region free? Or does it have to be region 1 (or the region that you are in)?
It is not possible to make this region free...or is it?
Liz (I know I had more questions, but this is all I can think of right now)

The DV-525 will play PAL or NTSC (Any medium - vcd/svcd/dvd etc...). It will play region free DVDs and also DVDs of the region that it is set to play (PAL or NTSC).
I have never found a region hack, I have tried a few but none of them work.

Thanks for the reply..
I bought a dvd of "Threads" a while back from amazon uk. It was region 0 but Pal. It played, but it was all bad on my tv (maybe it's the tv, a Sony Vega?). I ripped and re-encoded that one with tmp, and then it worked.
So that Pal dvd thing depends on the tv, also? -
the pioneer 525 multi system that i have will play any dvds, i have dvds from region2 pal and just pal and region1 ntsc, it wil play only ntsc on ntsc tv it plays the pal dvds but there is no picture because the dvd is in pal system and my tv does not recognise pal system, u need the converter pal/ntsc ntsc/pal then it will play all your dvds, it plays vcd/svcd without any problems svcd upto 2500 kbs,
i have aiwa mltisystem with decoder vcr i hooked up my pioneer dvd to it line in through the vcr to tv and all the dvds play without a problem, the converter is about $300 u can get the aiwa HV-MX100 for about $400 u get multisystem vcr with the decoder for pal/ntsc i hope this helped. -
lizzoqops,
It is your TV. How do I know? Because I have the same TV!
Read the instructions for it, I cant remeber what setting it is you have to use. But it does accept all video formats, PAL, NTSC, SECAM etc... Also, make sure that the switch at the rear of the DVD player is set to Auto. It should be a white switch that has a setting for PAL|NTSC|AUTO.
I had trouble getting my player (yes - I have the same player too!) to play region free NTSC DVDs. I eventually found that it was the TV that needed setting up properly. The screen kept switching from colour to black and white and fuzzy lines would continuosly scroll down it.
