  1. I downloaded a file and its not the best quality. I want to convert it to something else besides asf. I might have to make the video demensions smaller. Can someone tell me what program and file type to convert it to that would give it the best quality?

download the divx codec from tools
    open with virtual dub
    resize and apply whatever filters
    framserve to tmpge encode
tho it will still look shit....anything that u download always will....u can not fit a whole movie in 400M with good quality...well not yet, give it another year or two.

oh yeah..some asf files u download have frozen frames in them that cause most readers and encoders to lock up....there is a virtual dub version around that is specifically designed to find these brocken frames so u can delete them....

Honestly tho its not worth the effort.....wait a little longer for the dvd then ri...oops i mean back it up after u rent it.

there is atutorial on the left that explains frameserving....it allows u to play with the orginal file then send the modified version directly to an encoder rather than writing a new avi which serves no purpose other than to take up lots of disk space and take lots of time

  5. Ah, I see. The reason i'm going through the trouble is because these things are online, you can't rent them. Its also entertaining for me to do this too, its like a puzzle. I am wondering why you would have to frameserve. To my knowledge from reading the tutorials you just go straight to tmpgenc with your file then convert it there. Please tell my why you need to frameserve.
