I am new at capturing DV to my PC. I tryed the bundled software which came with my camcorder but it doesn't have the option of 'copy movies to hard drive'. So I tried Roxio but the video looks bad... no dropped frames just lines in my video.
I want to find a program that will capture everything I have on my camcorder to my hard drive in .avi format or .mpg.
I am using USB for transporting the files. I don't have a firewire connection.
Need anymore information? I'd be happy to let u know.
I feel like an idiot... just read on to the post about dv capturing software. Which program works good with USB streaming and will capture the entire video to the hd??

That is a problem because my camcorder didn't come with a firewire connection either! LOL...
Does, however, have i.Link? What is that for? -

Just to add, Firewire cards are cheap. Usually less than $30US. Easy to install in a PCI slot and generally self configuring. You may also need a cable if the card or camera doesn't come with one.
The DV file is easy to edit and encode to MPEG-2, if you are planning to end up with a DVD. You might also look into Mainconcept encoder. It will take the DV stream and convert it to MPEG-2 on the fly. Great if you don't need any editing. -
Well, I kinda' just wanted to encode dv to avi format for VCD authoring. I would use TMPGEnc for encoding and burn with VCDEasy.
Yeah I should get a firewire port on the back of my PC. Yet, I believe my PCI slot is used already but I would have to check.
Are you sure i.Link is the same as firewire? When I bought my camcorder, it didn't say it had "firewire" as some of the others did. -

Sony was one of the first companies to bring FireWire to the PC desktop. Sony renamed FireWire as i.Link and made it available early on in their VAIO computers. Paired with one of Sony's digital video cameras the VAIO computer was an excellent platform to do video editing on.

the terms firewire and i.link are trademarks of Apple and Sony respectively. IEEE-1394 is the standard.
