Hi,
I have a question about printing to dvds.

did anybody print directly to non-printable dvd surface with an inkjet printer?

like epson r200 or 300

I'm not talking about thermal printers.

Yes, I tried on both white top and silver top blanks.
The ink took days to dry and rubbed off easily.
I even tried roughing the surface with fine steel
wool. Same results.

It's hard enough trying to get paint to stick to plastic surfaces let alone ink...

I goit a batch of silver discs that were supposed to be printable, let me tell you, I tried several times with different settings, and the discs looked like crap, after a few days they looked like a bunch of dots and the ink wiped right off -It never dried!

There are two types of "printable" disks. If you want to print on an inkjet, make sure the disks specify "inkjet printable." Do not use the "thermal printable" disks. They require a special black-only printer that prints on the disk using a ribbon and heat.

Interestingly, rima.com has a set of DVD-R "samples" that I just bought for about $15. It provides two samples each of their inkjet-printable disks. I haven't printed or burned yet, but the Ritek G04 disk has the smoothest, nicest-looking surface; the others are kind of rough.
