This is not a 'goodbye' thread.![]()
When I moved to Arizona in 2001, my intention was to find an easy desk job and work a few part-time hours. I not only found that job, but I found a husband/wife owner whose moral and ethical compass pointed in the same general direction as mine. My intention was to make our employment situation a long-term venture, and to consider myself semi-retired for the rest of my life.
I changed my mind. :P
I accepted a full-time position in law enforcement this week. I managed to clear all of the 'moral' and 'ethical' requirements necessary for the position, including a polygraph suitable for State and Federal candidates. While I am (in my opinion) being offered the world, the one thing I will NOT have access to is the Internet during working hours.
As a result, you will not see me here at videohelp.com much anymore. As many of you know, my previous job allowed me ridiculous amounts of time for both digital video work and casual post-whoring. Now, with a ton of additional income and several large-scale projects on the drawing board, most of my free time will be dedicated to those endeavours.
The first priorty is to finish our remodeling of the house. Then, as I've mentioned here before, I am going to build a model railroad. And with the extra income, I can do it the way I want, and not be limited by finances. This is basically the only 'dream' of mine that hasn't been fufilled, and the fact that it will be realized in my 30's makes it that much more special to me.
I have one other passion that I haven't mentiond much here, but is important to me: abused animals. Especially cats. We have a problem in this part of the world with people who think abusing animals is nothing more than a social deviation. Cats and horses tend to take the brunt of the abuse. We are hoping that we can help the Humane Society by sheltering some of those cats they are able to rescue.
So, as you can see, I'm taking a new direction in my life. I'll still be here, but not nearly as much.

So, since you are working for Sheriff Arpaio now, you can stop the abuse of animals, yet continue the abuse of model prisoners.
Hello. -
Indo, Sweet.... so when I go into the local bank you'll be sitting there at the front door.

@TommyKnocker,
Good one. But we here Up North are a little more 'conservative' than even Arpaio. We don't serve green baloney, we serve fresh roadkill. Skunk, that is.
@BJ_M,
Thanks!
To my knowledge, there hasn't been a bona-fide police chase in all of Navajo County this year. Hell, we've only had two or three murders in the entire county!
Barking dogs and domestic violence. That's about the extent of things 'round here. -
If you need a steady supply of guns you can plant on suspects let me know, I know where I can get hold of 20-40, 32's and 15-20 380s....cheap!

Yeah, I wish. :P
You're talking about a county that doesn't have computers in their vehicles. The terrain doesn't make such a combination practical unless you use satellite communications, and that ain't gonna happen with the tax mentality out here.
Nope, I ain't walking the street beat. I'll be nice and cozy, surround by millions of dollars in computers and communications equipment. -

We live in a double-wide. It was brand new when we set the house in 2002. We hadn't been in the house a full month and I was already ripping the wallboard panels off the studs. I'm not bothered by the 'Cheese Factor' look of most things, but batted-strip wallboard is one of them.
So here's what we did. We exposed the walls so all you could see was the wood studs. I added 10 new electrical 20-amp circuits in the north end of the house and removed all the cheap-ass wiring already there, and redid the plumbing connections in that end of the house. The house is now more 'electrically friendly' for all of the computers and train equipment.
For the walls, we installed fireblocks at the 4' line. Interior walls got R-11 insulation for soundproofing. I installed 'sound board' on the walls, which was then covered by 5/8" fire-resistant sheetrock. I went with a smooth-coat drywall finish. If you enjoy torturing yourself, I strongly recommend a smooth-wall finish.
100% guaranteed overkill, no doubt about it. But I enjoy this kind of work, and the sound-deading abilities of this type of installation are incredibe.
The interior doorframes got tossed in the dumpster. The new frames are done in drywall. This is somewhat like doing a smooth-wall finish; lots of meticulous work and ample amounts of foul language. Same for the windows, too. Everything is drywall. The only wood is the floor and ceiling trim, and some decorative trim around the door openings.
Still looks like white trash on the outside, but when people walk in and see the inside, they generally say something like "Holy Shit, Indolikaa! Did you do all this?!"

I build model railroads too. If you want information on layouts, let me know. What roads are you looking to collect and what type of scenes do you want to make? I've built only 10 different scenes. 6 were made on 48"X96" plywood sheets. 3 were on 48"X48" sheets (just simple circles). And the only one I have left (I sold the rest) is the one I used 2 48"X96" sheets to make. I like the NY Central road and some of the Pennsy's. My layout is a coal mining scene. However, for kicks & giggles, I run a SharkNose engine with Pullman Coaches.
I have a ton of trains that have the NY Central scheme, but were never NYC engines in real life. I just like the Black color with the Cigar band. THere's the lightning stripe one's too, but they don't seem as snazzy as the cigar band IMHO.

The magic in drywall door wraps is to make sure your wood framing is 100% square. And that doesn't happen in a mobile home, so you either have to redo their framing or use the drywall and some drywall shims to resquare the opening.
You then use square cornerbead to wrap the opening, and mud the 'arch' and 'wall wrap' to a tight finish. Then you screw your door hinges to the drywall and into the wood.
Hanging the door is the hardest part, by far. You literally have to set the door on shims, square it in the opening, and then hold the hinge positions in place while you open the door just enough to drive the screws into the frame. And this is all a waste of time if your opening wasn't perfectly squared. It took me three tries to get it right on the first door.
Fireblocking the 4' line is simple. You place horizontal 'blocks' between the studs at the 4' line from the floor, and offset them from that line. If I could find that ******* brochure, I'd link straight to it because it shows some cool ways to help defeat sound in your home...

Why do I picture Indolikaa as a Farva (Super Troopers reference) when I hear this news.
Mac: Radio, we need some plates run
Farva: Don't call me Radio, Unit 91
Mac: Then don't call me unit 91, radio.
Farva: Are you done?
Mac: Yes Radio.

That's probably a more accurate description of the situation, but as you can see, it completely lacks color and depth. And besides, I'm not sure the mention of inflatable love on a repeater channel would be in compliance with the policies of Chairman Powell and the rest of the FCC.
