Harry Potter for me.... I slept through each of the Lord of the Rings, least ol' Harry boy was able to keep my attention.

BTW, I assume the Ring got destroyed in the end?

LOTR so kicked HP ass, there is even a southpark episode proving it

    Hello,

Lord Of The Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Lord Of The Rings Movie Trilogy directed by Peter Jackson.

Give me authentic fantasy stories anyday.

Don't get me wrong. Harry Potter is ok but it's kind of like Pokemon to me, I never really got into it. It's something that has to grab you but I never really did.

I had this exact discussion at work, and I said LOTR by far, but since i work with mostly high school girls, HP won the vote at work.

I'd have to say LOTR if its a question of the movies, but to be honest its a hard call.

As classic as LOTR is if its the books I vote for Harry Potter, I know everyone loves LOTR but I've always found Tolkien very dry and hard to read while the HP books are excellent.

I'm amazed there is even a debate about this.
Thats like comparing "The GodFather" to "You got Mail."

Not really both are Fantasy flicks. Both are well regarded. Both have a good story, and both sets of films are well made.

So really there is alot of room for the discussion. You just disagree because the target audiance is slightly different and or you cant fathom that something new could be as good as something old that you already know.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, regardless of the faq that Tolkien is kinda the father of a genre I find his writing to be dry and boring.

Not overly fond of either personally.

But I think you missed the larger point of what I was saying.
