Sure enough! It's ME again with widescreen problem! Only this time the problem seems even more bizzare!

OK! I rented the DVD "Son Frere (His Brother)" from Blockbuster. The DVD was made and released by Strandreleasing and in letter box format. When I tried to watch the movie, a series of strangest events took place.

First, I played the movie with my Terapin 1800 model. The only format that came up on my televisionb monitor screen was TV-formatted version. The entire television screen was fill. There were no upper and lower black bands that usually appear in the letter box format.

Next, I played the movie with my DVD-ROM. Stranger events took place. The Windows Media Player and Power DVD softwares were able to capture and show the movie in letter box format. However, when I used the DVD X Player Professional, the movie was shown in a entirely different format which is NEITHER letter box NOR TV-formatted. There were two skimpy black bands (top & bottom) that are not like the black bands one usually sees in the letter box. And everything on the screen seemed elongated a little.

I used SmartRipper to verify the aspect ratio. It was shown 4:3.

This is the strangest experience I ever had with letter box, wide screen format.

I already sent Strandreleasing an email, telling them of my experience. I am waiting for them to reply.

However, has anyone here rented the movie? If yes, did you have the same experience that I did? For those who may want to rent it to see what I meant, a little warning. This movies is pretty heavy and may not be suitable to many adults since it dealt with many strong themes such as terminal illness, surgery pains & sufferings, homosexuality (the gay guy is the healthy one, though).
