I have Vegas Movie Studio 8.0 (not Pro) and I have an HD widescreen video that I am trying to render as widescreen. I heard that I am supposed to select the HDV 1280x720 option in the video properties. However, that option is not present in the video properties. I tried making a custom width and height, but Vegas automatically changes it to what it was before. Is the 1280x720 option, perhaps, not available if I don't have Pro? If it helps, the video is from my Kodak Zi6 camera that I converted from .mov to .wmv.

What is the format of your source?
 (resolution, frame rate and codec)

What do you want to do with this file? Output format and use?

PS: According to Kodac website, your choices are:

So it looks like you have a 1280x720p 30fps h.264 file.Video capture H.264 (MOV), AAC LC

 Video quality
 HD60: 720p at 60 fps—16:9

 HD: 720p at 30 fps—16:9 (default) VGA

You would need to upgrade your old Vegas to 9 Platinum to have a chance but the h.264 support needs confirmation. Ask Sony about support for the Kodak Zi6 camera.

Or, you can externally convert the file to HDV and import.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Thank you for your reply. The output format I want is WMV and I plan on putting it on YouTube. How do I convert the file to HDV?
-
Here is where it gets tricky. HDV is normally 1440x1080i but 1280x720p 30 fps is also part of the spec. The first issue is whether Vegas Movie Studio 8 accepts 1280x720p HDV.

If so, others may suggest the easiest way to convert h.264 720p to HDV 720p. I'd start with Virtualdub or Avidemux.

I normally use Vegas Pro so I've had no need to do this.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.
