  1. One of my computers is goofed up. My grandson spilled a soft drink on the key board and the keys started sticking. So we bought another keyboard ($20. 102 key common board that uses the std drivers, nothing fancy). But it was typing all the wrong letters, so we exchanged it, the repacement was also typing all the wrong letters. Next test, switched keyboards with another computer. The recently exchanged one worked fine on the second computer, the keyboard from the other computer was also typing all the wrong letters on the first computer. So the problem is the computer, not the keyboard.

I have uninstalled (removed drivers and hardware) and restarted the computer allowing it to 'find' the keyboard and install the drivers, restart, and it's still messing up.

The computer that is messing up has windows 2000 professional OS. What should i do next?
If it works, don't fix it.

  2. Hmmm...

I would go into the BIOS and reset the "doo-hicky" (technical term) and enable legacy support. I think its called "Auto ECSD" or something like that and change it to "Reset" so the motherboard will "Find" the keyboard again.

    Just my .02¢

    Good luck

I had something like that happen once, not spillage, but all the wrong letters being typed. It turned out to be a loose card. You may want to check all the external connections first, then open the case and check to be sure that everything is secure.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

Probably don't want to hear this but one possibility is your keyboard connector (motherboard) has been shorted out. Keyboards may be extremely low-voltage but they are electrical just they same. Try everything else, but you may be forced to go with a USB keyboard (or scrap the machine).

I did that on an old keyboard about 10 years ago and I smoked a few items on my MB. Power to the KB but that's it.

    Could be MB....

  6. Problem solved. Somehow the keyboard type got changed to "U.S. Dvorzak, right-handed...", whatever the H%$* that is. Changing it to plain "U.S." fixed it. Thanks for the input.
