PAL/NTSC advice needed

I live in the US and I want to put some home videos taken with my camcorder onto DVD so my family in the UK can see them. They don't have a computer, just a regular DVD player (don't know the make).
I have all the s/w necessary for capturing, editing, burning etc and have success with burning DVD's for playing in the US.
I'm not sure what I need to do for them to play on UK machines.
There's the question of this NTSC/PAL thing and also the region stuff.
Any help would be appreciated.

Almost all European players (including VHS) can make an NTSC item "viewable"....so I really wouldn't be too concerned about doing a true NTSC to PAL conversion.
Also the days of a DVD Player only playing one or two region codes(I've come across regions 2 and 4 here in Europe) are going away as well.
I would just send the DVD as a region free NTSC or MAYBE an NTSC with the matching region code for the U.K.
The recipients can always run out and buy a cheap little $40 DVD player that converts one format to the other IF necessary.

It's actually pretty difficult to assign a disc a certain region. Region free (or all region) is standard operating procedure for almost anything DVDR.

Oh, OK. So I don't even need to bother with the region stuff. I may as well just make a "test" DVD just so they can try it out before I get into editing all those hrs of tape!

It would also help to get the model number of the dvd player you would use of there. Then just pop it in this list to find some specifications:

That will give you an idea of what its capable of. Good luck!
