What do you do with your AVI files once converted to DVD?

I still have my AVI files on my hard drive, but trying to figure a method to save them for future use so I can get back my HD space.

Would delete them due to size but I work with MPEG's only and they are reasonably sized to store.

NO AVI! I have the hauppauge wintv pvr250 so I only have mpegs to work with. I don't even do divx anymore since I have a nice single layer dvd burner .

Depends on the content for the most part I only use a DV tape once and keep it. I don't tape much but the stuff I do is worth keeping, I make an additional full backup of the AVI to disc, splitting it into parts where neccesary.

Same thing with my VHS AVI captures.

I'm one of those happy go lucky people that just shrugs their shoulders and says "oh well" when things like that happen. I mainly deal with TV caps into DV via an ADVC-100 and the 75GB files are a bit hard to backup to a RW

depends on the project - if it's something for myself, and I'm satisfied with the finished product, I'll delete the .avi files.

if I think I might want to do something else with the footage, or spend more time cleaning it up, I'll keep it on the hard drive.

if it's for a paying customer, I'll archive the .avi files on dvdr. so far, space hasn't been an issue, but if it is, I'll start adding in a data-retention charge and pick up an extra hard drive for storage of their project files.

I then delete lesbian-gore-fest-edited.avi once the mpeg is authored to dvd, and the mpeg backed up to a seperate DVD-r.
Each of my avi's are 13gb/hr; impractical to archive.

I save really rare and a few favorites on HDD. The rest I delete. I have extra drives laying in storage, like CDs, but I really should mark and catalog more of them as it's difficult to remember what I saved on which drive.

I mostly capture directly to MPEG with my All-In-Wonder - I'll capture as AVI if I plan on adding some fancy effects or doing some creative editing.


Usually delete the AVI files - I'll archive some as data (using a file splitter if they're too big for one disc)

I capture from digital cable box with advc-100 in avi format then convert with TMPGE PLUS & DVD AUTHOR then do a test burn with NERO BURN on a DVD+RW to see the quality. If it's good then I go ahead and delete the avi file. The avi files are way too big to keep on my hard drives even though on 1 pc I have 500 gbs of hard drive space!

90% of my files are DIVX or i convert them to divx.. i do keep dvd img as dvd/vob but all my other stuff like tv shows i record is divx.. i thn burn to DVDR. as data.. my phillips plays dvdr with avi/mpg/dat etc as data so i dont need to convert. handy feature..
BUT after they are on dvd or cdr i delete off computer
