I have cyberlink power dvd 5.3 installed on my dell computer windows xp operating system which also has windows media player 10. I can't play dvd's none of them with windows mp10. Should the "codec" that is being used by power dvd also be used by windows mp10 automatically or do I have to do something special to get the power dvd codec to work with windows mp10?

    thank you

  2. It should be automatic but I would use PowerDVD or RealAlternative.

Does windows media player give you a decoding error, or do you just don't know how to open them in it ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

I get the copyright protection notice and when I go to MP10 embedded help links it says to restart the movie with another dvd player and then reboot the computer and try windows mp10 again--this did not work for me. It then talks about having codecs that are compatible with MP10 and windows xp like from intervideo , power dvd sonic etc and provides links to their websites where you can downoad them for $15.
I don't know what these recommended solutions have to do with copyright ID.

Well I aleady have power dvd OEM from dell upgraded online to 5.3 version not 6.0.
Thats what I'm wondering is why the codecs don't work from the power dvd player software already installed like microsoft suggests or if I have to do something else.

Its not that I'm going to use WMP10 that much but I would like it to work because I like the way they itemize the movie chapters.

I also use media player classic and that is fine.

I tried the free MPEG 2 codecs on this site and they would not install asking for another file.

    thanks
