I have an anime DVD (disc 5 of 6 of Kimagure Orange Road) that has a "disc error" (Apex 1500's alert message) starting on the 5th (of 8 total) episodes. The first 4 episodes are fine, the 5th and 6th totally freeze the DVD player, and the 7th and 8th start playing, but skip every few seconds. Are there any ripping tools that will work around this?

If it's possible I'd like to rip the episodes and conert to SVCD (the latter half I know how to do ). Any suggestions?
