This link gives a meat and potatoes version of the possible error codes, it doesn’t really help fix the problem but it does give you an idea at what level your problem exists:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/directx9_m/directx/au...errorcodes.asp

and here’s a little more info geared toward troubleshooting DirectShow filters:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/archive/default.asp?url=/archive/en-us/directx9_c/directx/ht...ccesscodes.asp

    What does it all mean?

The most likely culprit (as with 99% of playback issues) is a bad codec pack. The Nimo Codec Pack is quite notorious for causing this particular error as it (by default) installs *SOMETHING* (I have no idea what just yet) that either corrupts or directly conflicts with your MPEG2 decoder. After a recent rebuild I installed PowerDVD 5 and then the Nimo codec pack and immediately received this error on the next DVD I tried to play.

    How do you fix it?

Reinstall your soundcard drivers first as they probably need an update anyway. Sometimes the issues aren’t exclusive to your MPEG2 decoder.

Secondly download and install the new DirectX 9.0c as that will rebuild/replace your corrupted DirectShow renderer, assuming it’s not a conflict with your soundcard driver.

Those two things will get your DVD’s playing again but I recommend the following:

    My step by step suggestion

1 Uninstall any and all codec packs

2 Manually uninstall all remaining codecs by going to your ‘Sound and Audio Devices’ control panel, Hardware tab, highlight ‘Video Codecs’ and then click the ‘Properties’ button. Select and remove each one. More information can be found at this thread if you’re not convinced that the files have been removed: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/81570

3 Update/reinstall your soundcard drivers and reboot as prompted

4 Download and install DirectX 9.0c from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=0A9B6820-BFBB-4799-9908-D418C...displaylang=en

5 Reinstall your basic Indeo 3,4,5 codecs found here http://codecs.nm.ru/iv5setup.exe or http://home.eunet.no/~pereivin/iv5setup.exe

6 Reinstall your other codecs manually, individually as needed. I prefer the latest build of FFDShow for resource and control reasons. Get the codec/filter at http://ffdshow.sourceforge.net FFDShow will give you all the basics (DivX, XVid, AC3 etc) as well as an extremely powerful GUI loaded with every conceivable option for manually tweaking the output of each codec.

For any codecs you need after installing FFDShow I recommend checking out http://www.freecodecs.com as they will have the most comprehensive list of updated codecs for download. Bookmark that site, it’s very handy.

The problem is partially solved. B4 using ur suggested solution, the beginning portion of the mpeg was unviewable. After updating the sound drivers, the initial playback of the mpeg was viewable, but it become unviewable again!

well untill you've completely deleted everything all you can assume is that you're just adding potential layers onto your playback corruption.

What are you using to play the SVCD mpeg? WMP?
For playing back mpeg2, I suggest PowerDVD or WinDVD or MediaPlayer Classic. WMP is just the HDD version of land fill.
