  1. Hi all,

I have an XviD encoded avi file that contains a vbr mp3 audio stream. If I load it in VDM and attempt to cut some content out, then save the resulting "cut" file, the audio is totally out of sync. Is there any way to do this?

    Thanks.

  2. You have to extract the VBR audio and convert
to a fix rate audio. then remux it to the video.

When you first open the avi in VDM (or VD) does a box pop up telling you about the VBR audio and asking you to let VDM fix the problem?

If so then did you press YES?... What you should do is select NO or just close the box. Now do the editing...the vbr audio will now remain in sync without any skew.

It has happened that audio get's out of sync even this way. Especially if the source AVI has a Keyframe interval that is especially long (e.g. 200frames or so).

The safest way to edit such a file is to open it, select audio-->Full Processing mode, save uncompressed with File-->Save Wav
and then replace the original audio with Audio--> Wav Audio --> Browse for the newly exported WAV file.

Edit and select how to save the video and audio. Unless you are doing minor trimming at the beginning or the end, you should also select Full Processing mode for video and a codec as well as a codec for audio (CBR this time).

PS. I don't understand why some people encode audio in VBR mode. It makes such a small difference in the total file size and can cause so many problems that it should be avoided alltogether.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
