That is amazing that they can fit the whole machine in a two inch flat screen type space! Not to mention the G5, where all the speed helps in video editing. Plus if you get a wireless keyboard, mouse, and airport card the only cord you have is the power!

it's also amazing how apple dropped the ball again
on manufacturing these things along the
    assembly line.

And wtf is up w/ 5200FX (non-upgradable) and 256 MB of RAM (esp on the high end model)? That's just so crippled, it's not even funny.

That's true...it's not like the latest (best) cards
aren't AVAILABLE at the time of manufacture....

  7. The video card is part of what keeps the price down. I'd be more concerned by the DVD burner model's heat build up. Having played with the 17 inch model in a store, I was impressed by the speed, picture quality and coolness factor. But the screen angel can't be changed, so table height and chair height become the adjustable factors.

Don't be. It was designed to deal with the heat.

The angle can be changed quite easily, in a similar manner to changing the angle on the new Cinema Displays. The iMac page even animates it for you. I can't see how you used the machine and didn't notice that.
If it isn't broken, take it apart and find out why.

Looks pretty good to me... remember, the iMac's are "intro" computers for "basic" computer users. Email, Word, Internet and basic burning, cd/dvd thats about it. Sure it can do more, but the point is that its mostly for those users who live in those 3 realms mostly.

One question I have is sound... is it as quiet as the G5 desktops? or does it have more of a fan noise due to its small size/heat ratio?

It's supposed to be very quiet, moreso than the G5 desktops. As for the video card, they've really hurt the Mac games market by making their consumer system such a poor performer in recent 3D games. A better card would have really helped make a larger market for the porting of recent game titles. They should at least have had the option to upgrade to a better card for a cost, especially in the higher-end models.

I dunno..The macfixit article details that
Apple is offering a support/return service
for the PS much like the dualies a while back.
Seems that the thing ramps up when
the processors are pushed, loud enough
to be heard in the next room...

I'm sure they chose the video card for heat reasons.

  13. i wonder why they didn't put the computer in the keyboard, like the old c64 like comps. If you see how flat laptops can be, it shouldn't be a problem to put the entire thing in a standard (maybe little thicker) keyboard. Having all the connections on the keyboard would be better to I think. 8)

if they do that then it would be called a powerbook g5

yea the reason i asked about the fan noise was becaue i saw that apple was offering replacement PS already!

so anyone here got one?? is it loud?

Then you'd be stuck with an Apple keyboard forever, plus you'd have a bunch of thick cables hooked up to the keyboard. Also, it would just be too weird having your keyboard making a bunch of noise. I think the monitor is a much better place for the computer. What would be best would be for Apple to bring back the cube, but make it cheap.

    The cube would be perfect.

It just seems like they designed the looks before they designed functionality. They should design the machine internally and do the best they can with looks. Its like womens' fashion. It's designed to look good not designed to be comfortable.

But for what I want I can't wait to get one!
