  1. Hi,

I've been editing videos for quite a while now and never had a problem using VideoStudio 7. I also use TEMPGEnc Plus V2.5 if I don't want to edit a file but just convert it.

Now all of a sudden I start having a problem. I capture my video in DV format and then convert it to MPEG-2 for DVD. This one file I have looks perfectly smooth in DV format or AVI. But when I convert it to MPEG it looks choppy and blurry when there's some motion. It doesn't matter if I use VideoStudio or TMPGEnc for conversion. Both times the video is choppy and blurry.

At the weekend I formatted my harddrive and reloaded all software that came with the computer and also VideoStudio 7. I thought if there was a driver or codec problem this should help. But the problem is still there.

I also have a Panasonic DVD recorder. So I recorded the same video with the DVD recorder and it looks great. Then I ripped the DVD I recorded onto the computer, demuxed the vob files into m2v and wav files. Everything worked fine so far. But when I convert the files to mpeg, the video's choppy and blurry again.

    Any suggestions ?

  3. I tried both, bottom field first and top field first. Both times the video is choppy and blurry.

Make sure you set IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller transfer mode to DMA enable.

Use VC Swap (from the tools section of this site) to see what codecs you are using. Great app for just such problems.

he said he is using DV codec

install the free panasonc dv codec and render to that -- then render with tmpgenc

the microsoft dv codec is not very good anyway

  7. Sorry, none of that helped.

I remember right before video encoding started to give me problems I installed more memory in my computer. Didn't speed anything up. But could that be the problem ? I can't imagine but that's the only thing that's different in my system.
