  1. After 9 months of farting and fannying about (yes thats right 9 ******* months) I have finally exchanged contracts today and I move on Friday 24th Sept.

    I am very, very happy.

  2. Let me be the first to congratulate you !!!

I remember you telling me about the stupid hassles
of the English real estate system months ago and
even then you were waiting on the buyer to get
    his loan approved.

In Australia it is a negotiated 30, 60 or 90 days on average.
The buyer puts up a bond (5 -10 %) and forfeits it if he
can't complete the deal. No time wasting. No mucking around.
Average time for loan approvals in Oz is 3 to 5 days; some
    provide instant approvals.

Now all you have to worry about is cardboard boxes

  3. Thanks offline, the system here is long overdue a change, its rediculous ho people can piss you about without any kind of retribution. As for the cardboard boxes, we have been packed for weeks so thats not a problem

    Good news Craig.
I'm planning to pump £30k into an extension in the next two years so hopefully my moving days are a long way off

Welcoming Capmaster and Cobra as new moderators, a most appropriate choice.

It does have a study which is adjacent to the living room, dont know about big, its 9'7" x 7', with patio doors to the garden, which is nice. Plenty big enough for my PC set up though.

We were actually looking for a 4 bed place so that I could use one of the bedrooms as a study, it was just a big bonus that we found a place that had a dedicated study.

    I saw it.

Will and I swap insults all the time. Neither of us has ever given or gotten cards over it. We're both wankers and that's what we do

No it is all pretty tidy, although the wife still wants it decorated from top to bottom
I am having 2 weeks off work to get a good start on it.

    Hello,

You may wish you had those two weeks back to help pay for the decorating!

Is the new place a step up in size for you Craig? Perhaps an "entertainment" room for movies and music?

    Any pics yet?

I'd love an entertainment room. i used to have my bedroom in a cellar, don't get walls much thicker than medieval foundations

The A6 ran right past the front door, but i didn't hear a whsiper down there. when there was silence between CD tracks i was annoyed at the loudness of the spindle motor and laser assembly. *cocks ear* nope, all i hear now is wind and people on the street

It is bigger, 4 bed detached with a seperate study and a large garage. You could make room for a home theatre room in one of the bedrooms or at one end of the garage, but the wife wants a guest bedroom and a gym in the garage. So the main living room will have to do, but thats fine by me, I could not afford another big screen TV at the moment anyway.

No pics yet. I will post some when I move in if you are interested.

The house is still listed here

Unfortunately I don't have that type of cash laying around. Even if I did I would still do it myself. I am pretty good at DIY even if I say so myself. And contractors would just not pay the kind of attention to detail that I would do, it would just make things far too expensive. If you are doing it yourself you can take as much time as you like knowing that you are not going to be hit with a huge bill at the end of it.
