    Hi,

This is very much last minute. Our DJ backed out for the party on Sunday. I have taken the responsibility to play the music...its more of dance floor type songs I need to play. Well, all I have is few mp3s and a computer. I want to make the best of what I have and I was wondering if anyone knows what all I could do to make it DJ-like sounds and mixes with what I have.

Remember, the party is on this Sunday! I have few mp3s and a laptop, thats all. Any help with free mixing softwares or other tools will be appreciated.

    Thanks!

As a Vintage and Ballroom dancer, I suggest that you give a short intro that includes the name of the piece, the performer(s), yhe date recorded, and the suggested dance(s) that its best for.

Example: Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley in 2001 for East Coast Swing

Dancers are usually interested in what they are dancing to (and sometimes will want know where to get it).

One of the more sucessful Vintage era bands in Southern California always gives the above info. plus a very short bit of background.

A good source of info about dances etc. is: http://www.streetswing.com/histmain/d5timlne.htm

    Enjoy.

  3. If your question also concerns how to use software to emulate a dj:

Do a Google search on "dj software" (in quotes) and you'll find links that might help.

Good luck, and tell us how it goes!

I've used Winamp with the crossfading plugin to do something similar to what you are doing. It works fairly well. Just keep the playlist window open and drag and drop what mp3s you want up next.

    I used this software http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/index.html.

It's pretty cool. I can have pre-defined set list but still perform realtime song requests. I can also perform beat mixing, scratching and real-time sound bite and looping.
