We've found out in earlier posts what everyone does here(student, IT, etc.) but do you really like it? If not...and here's the big question what job do you really wish you had?

I like my job, be it only part time, but I wish I had Capmaster's job since he has clowns working at his office.

I would to like to work as the Olsen Twins' personal gigolo.

Since that won't happen, I think I'll keep the job I have. I get to play with nukes and lurk here ...at the same time

I'm in management. I like my job. I do what I want and they leave me alone and pay me enough money to keep me happy. What more can you ask? I have one boss I see every week or two. Of course they trust me to do my job without supervision.

I figure I have about 5 years to retirement and I am happy enough. I have to deal with personnel problems occasionally, and that's probably the only downside. Otherwise, I just work at educating our newer employees on the techniques needed to do their work.

    Doctor.

When it's good, patients' smiles and thanks keep me going through long shifts. When it's bad, I remind myself that a lot of my patients (miners and industrial workers) have worked twice as hard for half the £ and I have really nothing to complain about.

I love it - couldn't imagine doing anything else.
    Regards,

    Rob

I hate my job....being a truck driver. I hate it so much that im virtually sick of the truck im stuck in during the 5 days I have to sacrifice each week, while most of the video projects waiting for me at home are always on hold because of the darn truck and can never seem to get the time to do anything . My ultimate job goal is to be in the job field like Tgpo....video production, and something that I truly want to do for a career goal, and kick trucking to the curb once and for all.

I know what you mean VTM, I also drive trucks and do not enjoy it too much but it gets the bills paid. I am 22 right now and am looking foward to going back to school so I won't have to drive 18 wheelers for the rest of my life.

    Good luck to you VTM.

I like my job, it's alright. I would prefer a blue collar job. I love to weld...come on now...melting metal with fire or electicity. I really enjoy welding.

Problem with the blue collar job is schedule. Money is not worth my time. It doesn't bother me to drive a 97 chevy tahoe or my 91 GMC 4x4, I don't need a BMW or to live in a huge house.

You should always do what you enjoy most. What good is it to make $100k every year if you hate what you do.

That's why I feel so damn lucky now.

I've worked jobs I hated ....just hated so bad I almost got physically ill in the morning after waking up ...I dreaded the day so much. That's no way to live :P

That's what motivated me to go back to school after a year or so after high school ....working crap jobs for crap pay, and even crap jobs for decent pay. Hating the job that much made the money irrelevant

p.s. I do work with a great group of people and they know that I am available even if it is a non app related question (people drop by asking all kinds of computer related shit, business and/or personal).......

p.s.s. Id'd have to say I am happy and make the best of my job...

Full Time contract - basically they can say "ok, we don't need you anymore- be out of here before the hour is up" and that would be that

The money is not fantastic - the hours are ok but irregular
    and so is the money.

Only worked 1 day last week - before that company was in "discussion" with a problem client wouldn't pay the full cost for a site - they had no money = I get no money.
The client had another problem today - a big one that was something out of no-where, we wouldn't fix it unless they paid us for the rest of the work. They agreed and we got paid and that means that I got paid for the first time in six weeks today - yay!!!!!

I like the job - but I don't know if how long I can survive like this - I want a regular income and luxuries such as holidays and sick leave even superannuation!

The problem is that I enjoy the work - and I'm actually pretty good at it.

I wouldn't say that I love my job as an IT officer, but it is bearable. I worked at a location 4 hours from home for three years at my company's head office, only seeing my friends, family and pets on weekends. Recently I got the opportunity to transfer back to my home town as the company I worked for merged with a competitor whose head office was in my home town. Three quarters of our administration staff are based where I was, and about a quarter are where I am now. Our entire IT department in total contains 3 people (2 others where I was and me). Both companies were running different systems so while in effect I'm doing basically the same job and still answer to my boss in the other location, I am basically responsible for the office I now work at as well as three branches. It is pretty tough to just learn a system and overall network setup as you go along.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Now try explaining that to 168 15-19 year olds who all want a lot of money, but don't understand the prices they will have to pay for it.

I'm going through that with my 2 oldest daughters . They have no concept. They know things are expensive but can't related it to actual dollars and what is needed to get said dollars....
One good thing though.... they ARE frugal and that is the one thing Dad is not

I worked at a job that I hated so much that I went to college fulltime and worked it fulltime and slept 4 hours a day to get out of it. It paid well, and the money was nice, but the day I quit it seemed like a huge weight was lifted off of me, all of a sudden I was nicer (and yes, smartasses, I use to be much much worse), and life was good again.

There is no way that I would work a job I hate for 30 years simply for a paycheck...no ******* way. Matter of fact, once my kids are out on their own, Northcat will be making another change.

I've been doing this for 36 years. The job is interesting and the pay is fair. The problem is all of the new freshly graduated managers who have no concept of how things work in the real world. They are always trying to fix things that already work while ignoring the real problems. It's all politics now. They are more interested in 'climbing the ladder' than solving problems. The wise managers are just about all gone now and I am seriously considering retirement myself. It's like working in the 'Twilight Zone'. I just can't imagine not doing anything, I'm only 57 and in good health and would like to help send the grandkids to college. Perplexing.
If it works, don't fix it.

The older I get the more I hate my job.
It's semi-legal with a lot of contract law and it really pisses me off that I bust my gut for 40hrs for someone I don't care about.
I want to work in a job where someone goes home and says "...man, Will Hay really helped me out today, put me on the right track and I feel a lot more positive about myself".
I guess I just want a job with real satisfaction, and not becuase I shaved £500k from a £10m construction budget, but becuase I made a difference to someone somewhere.
I considered social services but being the only earner with two small kiddies I don't have a lot of options right now
Failing that I'd work for myself, doing anything.
We struggle as it is now and my wife ain't planning to work again for another two and half years.

  24. No doubt some of you out there are looking forward to retirement, who look forward to something else... That would be me as well. Experience and competence can keep you going (for awhile) when you find you don't have the drive you once had.

Among my trapshooting buddies are recently retired engineers, lawyers, doctors, policemen, etc. A surprising number are interested in cabinetmaking and whatnot. They missed the satisfaction of making tangible things with their own hands, I guess.

Of course they ask me questions. How to do this and that. "Whatcha gunna do when you have the time? Bet your wife has some ambitious remodeling plans!" **** that, I say. :P

Attend Youngstown State University during the week, night classes, and work part time at the local Staples on the weekend.

One more semester till I earn my 4 year degree in Accounting and then the party is over.

Untill then I like the retail freebies (software and electronics from vendors) from Staples and taking my 2 year old daughter to the park every day, every week, soaking up the sun and playing in the sand (box that is) Oh and I ride the swings and go through the tunnels and go down the slide too!

Occasionally I drop the little one off at grammies and take the motorcycle out for a spin.

Isn't it nice when the wife earns the money???

Fun in the sun, Oh no my friend, Fun on the sun!

Yeah, i suppose a good day for you in a job sense is managing to slash your carpenters paycheck by several grand, by pointing out their work is substandard. I know someone who is a QS (works for galliford try) and is also very disillusioned. fed up of saving the company thousands, and earning pennies.
