Hi,
i have a problem with my nd-2500a (firmware 1.06) from nec. i bought it 2 weeks ago an i am not able to burn more than 2,4x speed with it.
i tried several different medias and also different burning progs (eg nero6, clonedvd). every time it takes about 20 minutes to burn a dvd. i also checked the media i burned with dvdinfo pro and it said that it should be no problem to write with 4x speed on it. some of the media i tried were checked by nec too and have been mentioned in the medialist on their homepage being able to be written with 4x speed.
udma a is enabled too and i installed the latest aspi drivers.
Can someone please help me?

I have the same drive and have had no problems with it at all. It burns my dvdrs at 4x. I'm using the cheap orange bulkpaqs and have had no problems with them whatsoever.
Sounds obvious, but you haven't specified in your burning software to burn at 2x, have you? I use Nero and also DVD Decrypter to burn disks, and it always asks what speed I want to burn at, so I choose max. I'm assuming you've probably done the same? -
I use the Verbatim 4x DVD-R & Nero burns it at 8x speed.
How ever, you can find an excellent working list at
http://www.necd.de/software/1446_Media_List_for_8x_DVD_Writer.pdfSVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

Yes, I also tried some of the media mentioned with 4x speed on this list. But the only option I had with Nero was to burn them 2,4x.
The first time I started Nero with my 2500A I chose Maximum speed an it said, it coud only write with 2,4x. Since then my only possibility ist to choose 2,4x in the Box. There are no other values in there I could choose. -
DMA? If I recall, Windows usually defaults to PIO mode on CD/DVD drives in device manager. You might want to double check that it's set to DMA under IDE controllers for whichever channel you have your NEC on.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
There are 2 things I'd do if I were you.
#1: Completely uninstall Nero, including manually deleting it's folder and any referrences in your registry.
#2: Then, uninstall your drive via the device manager, restart windows, letting it find it again. Then reinstall nero and make sure you have the latest edition. Or go back to a 5.5 edition. I can't remeber what edition recognized NEC 2500. Hope some of this helps ya out. Later... -
This happens to me to and he is saying that it only gives you a 2.4 not 2,4 speed.
Hope I can figure it out , by the way mine is a pacific digital mach 8 and shows up as a 2500a. Will try uninstalling everything and trying again.
If there is a update on this lemme know. maybe a firware update will work I am using the stock firmware.
By the way this happens when no media is present also.
