I had to reinstall DVDXCOPY and learned that they are no longer supported here (US). Thus can't activate it.
What now?
I could split them with DVDShrink but I'd lose the menu and extras in the reauthoring process.
Any recommendations? I'm hoping this will turn out to be a good opportunity to move on to a better product.

You don't have to loose the menus with Shrink if you are creative. Create Disk 1 (movie disk) by changing all extras to a simple graphic that says "Extras on Disk 2". White text on black background takes up very little space.
Do the same for Disk 2, but this time replace the movie with a Title graphic saying "Movie on Disk 1".
You now have the original disk split in half, with menus intact.
And trust me, having used DVDXCopy, Shrink is a much better alternative. The only product 321 Studios produced that has been OK for me has been DVD X Rescue. The new Shrink produces much better quality backups than DVD X Copy. -
But the movie itself is too large for 1 disc. Don't I need to "reauthor" to split the movie?

With Nero installed to burn the DVD, Shink will compress and then burn.
Just open disc and then backup. No need to reauthor. -
I'm trying to avoid compression on this one. I'm willing to split it to 2 discs including functioning menu.
DVDXCOPY used to do this. -
roblobster,
I am in the same boat. I currently use DVDFAB (free version available here) and it does exactly that. It splits the movie onto 2 discs including functioning menus and no compression. The discs then play back fine on a stand alone player.
However, I have noticed a couple of small problems. On occassion, disc 2 will not start in the correct place. Instead it will just show a blank black screen and I will have to chapter skip forward until I get to the right chapter.
Also, if you use an HTPC, Zoomplayer cannot playback disc 2 of DVDFAB discs. It is a standards issue. All other dvd players work fine, but ZP will not.
So now I'm looking into using IFOEDIT to create my discs. It is slightly more time consuming but at least I can set it exactly how I want it.
DVDSTRIPPER can also split the DVD into 2 discs but it's not updated all that often.
