Dear Teach:
I’ve been musing over my last posts and responses to your posts over the last couple of days, and want to apologize. I usually know where my head is, but I wouldn’t have felt any pressure on my skull unless I sat down. First, let me say it was an untruth when I said I don’t care about you one way or another. Actually, since you you’re educating at the very leats 18 young black males in your classes, who think I sound gay, to say the least) I actually admire the work you do. Especially if you send them on to Calculus with no problems, a feat my former teachers couldn’t accomplish with me.
Next my comment about blaming you for the failure of the education system because you were “surfing the ‘Net. Again another stupid mistake on my part. If you are to able post with one hand and teach how to factor trinomials with the other, I really need to keep my mouth shut. If it helps you accomplish your lesson, who am I to judge?
That really is all I have to say for now. I know some people may see this as feigned humility on my part, but I hope you see it just for what it is, a simple apology. Have a great day, and to you and all teachers like you: Thanks for all you do!

I wasn't offended TK, I also did not feel that you needed to apologize, but accepted.

I didn't take offense (or offence...for flan)...I have 168 15-19 year old young adults everyday. I frequent videohelp.com between classes and just about any free moment I get because there is only so much "he's cheating on me, he's dating her, she's a bitch, we're getting high this weekend, we got high last night, etc, etc", teenager bullshit that I can take in a single day's time. While it does keep me young in spirit it gets old pretty quick.

Sad to say but in a normal day this BBS is the only adult interaction I get on a regular basis.

Our HS is a very diverse culture. We are 40% white, 40% black, and 20% other...and when I say "other" I mean OTHER....India, Afganistan, Mexico, China, Japan, Canada, Ecuador, Africa, Greece, Australia, Detroit ....for anyone not knowing anyone from the inner city Detroit area...they are a completely different breed of kid. I call them "no bullshit" kids...they don't put up with any bullshit. Our economic structure is also very diverse and I have kids in class who drive a new Mercedes sitting next to kids who have to work to help support the family. I love it here, there is no room for prejudice and everyone are "live and let live" people.

In any event TK, no worries, I don't take anything said here to heart. My concerns lie with getting the kids to be able to rationalize, problem solve, be independant thinkers with good inductive and deductive reasoning skills.
